Does the application still have to fit in a 640X480 screen?
Worked on a DoD project that had that as a requirement. Took years to get them to remove that spec.

Nice! I got lucky enough to secure a Xeon laptop a couple months back; even with all the security processes running compile time is pretty much trivial.

Ahhh, they gave you a server o/s so more difficult to play games.
actually more likely a left over item, and they're too cheap out of budget to buy a normal machine.
seems a waste to me: I'd roll linux onto it and run windows in a VMs (can have a few VM's and they won't suffer the throttling that Windows Server applies to VM's, not to mention all that winserver farting about forever "adding roles" to get the simplest things done, and finding out the license doesn't include that, not to mention the 32bit compatibility quirks.)

Machines were in place before I started here. A waste? On a normal user, yes. I'm not entirely sure it would have cost significantly less for a desktop box, given the government's propensity for spending more than they should on stuff.
As for "rolling linux onto it", that's a non-starter on a DoD box.
