Started new job yesterday - I've been told it'll be "a couple of weeks" before I can actually start working.
Dev box is a Windows Server 2016 with a 2.8GHz 10-core Xeon CPU,32GB RAM and two 1-TB drives.

And quite likely no good video card either as it's a server type box. A little odd for a dev machine.

Unless you're coding against a virtualized network.

Anything that can drive a 4K monitor is acceptable IMO.
The Intel HD 5500 in my NUC is plenty good to run my 4K monitor, but forget about actually playing 4K, full-screen video.

Must be nice to have eyes that can differentiate that level of detail, but as a plus it's cheaper not to be able to really see more detail than 1080 presents!

Why would you develop on a server quality box? Are you working as a system engineer? Just curious.

Does the application still have to fit in a 640X480 screen?
Worked on a DoD project that had that as a requirement. Took years to get them to remove that spec.

Nice! I got lucky enough to secure a Xeon laptop a couple months back; even with all the security processes running compile time is pretty much trivial.
