Has anyone ever done any research on this idea applied to the web? Obviously you'd have to only consider the subset of sites that have at least one link in and out of, but within that can one assert that any two websites can be linked by X (direct - ie not via search engine queries) links?
Maybe this is a silly/trivial question - I can't quite get my head around it!

My project is in asp.net. we ftp the code to the us server. It is installed properly. now the the button click event is not being fired in one page. if we comment the validation controls then it is working.
If anybody know the solution plz help me.

You know when you have developed a large web application and thoroughly tested it, even had other people within your organisation test it, it all works great. The application is published to a live server, the client tests it... The application is in heavy demand, it works great. But, every now and again an error occurs, a bug report is generated by the application and is automatically e-mailed to the developer in charge. The user is presented with an opportunity to enter what happend, this gets e-mailled to the developer as well.
The above is what happens at my workplace. I try to reproduce this error to no avail. I have details of the contents of all the session objects, form contents, stack trace, inner exceptions etc.
The problem is what was the lead up to this error? What were the clients actions prior to the error?
Does anyone know of a tool that simply sits on the live server recording all the GET / POST methods etc, then when an error does occur the days recording for example could be retrieved locally and replayed against your test server?

I am developing a ASP.Net application. My application have 5 layers. (1) Web Layer (2) Business Logic Layer (3) Data Access Layer (4) Business Entity (5) System Framework.
I want to put Exception Management Application Block (EMAB) in SystemFramework layer, so that it can be accessible from all layer. In SystemFramework layer i put EMAB (2 dlls Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.ExceptionManagement and Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.ExceptionManagement.Interfaces.dll), ExceptionPublisher.cs and ExceptionXMLPublisher.cs. I can access ExceptionPublisher.cs and ExceptionXMLPublisher.cs from other layers but to publish error i have to access ExceptionManager.Publish which is not accessible.
Anyone know what to do.

i have to build a ranking system for the artifacts most visited by the viewers
and the visitors have to be unique.the articles are displayed by searching the intranet by a search engine. i have developed the database to store the url and the clicker ip or username. now the problem is how to track the username or IP address from the browser itself and load it in the database along with the URL visted by him. this application has to be loaded on the intranet.
please help me as to how this can be done. you can either send me an code excerpt or an article to implement this.

my application depends on asp.net, i am using the coveo enterprise search engine. you too can download it, it has an evaluation version and can search upto 5000 documents free of cost. there you will have options to use either asp or the dotnet version i.e asp.net.

Client IP: Request.UserHostAddress
Client DNS NAme : Request.UserHostName
URL: Request.Url.

can i redirect the user to another page when he clicks on the url from the search results page, then when the user is redirected to my page can i collect his credentials such as the url he clicked and the hostname of the user and store it in the database.
i would be glad if you could help me out as to how to do it. with an example or an article that would help me.

Hi, My reqirement is to identify a self registering dll for packaging purposes. I'm looking for a logic to identify the self registering dlls from others by running them. It can be done using a dependency walker, but i need to understand how its done!

1. Use LoadLibrary API to load the desired DLL
2. Try get a handle to DllRegisterServer function and also for DllUnregisterServer function of the DLL you loaded in step 1. Please refer MSDN for signature/prototype of this function. I think the API you will need to use is GetProcAddress API
3. If you could succesfully access these functions then you hav a Self Registering DLL (basically a COM DLL).

TECHNICALLY any DLL that is self registering is supposed to have the string value 'OleSelfRegister' in the version resource without any associated text.
Loading the version information for the DLL and seeing if this value exists is SUPPOSED to be sufficient. Alas, many software developers are completely oblivious to this recommended guideline for distributing software.
Therefore, as the correct method is completely unreliable, you are left to parse the export table looking for DllRegister or to load the module and try GetProcAddress as has already been mentioned. Loading it to discover this information sucks, because then you have executed code of the module's DllMain function.

I like "The Code Project" site. A lot of articles have information and code that i don't need directly, but i already have a purpose for them in the future.
So i like to keep those articles on my localdrive.
The proces of storing all the wanted data of the article in the format and location i like is rather timeconsuming.
-First i create a Worddocument
-then i start scraping the header of the article from the screen and paste it in this Worddocument
-then i scrape the content of the article from the top inluding downloadlinks to the bottom just after the author's profile (i dont want links of other interresting articles in this document) and paste it in this Worddocument.
-then i save the worddocument in a subdirectory at a predefined location with the name of the title of the article (the subdirectory is also named after the title of the article)
-then i start downloading the files on the top if any are included and place them in the subdirectory mentioned earlier.
This problem is the same with other websites, mostly the way they present the data is different.
Wouldn't it be great to have a tool where you can automate this task after you first explain the tool how to gather the data from a particular webpage, in which format and where to store it. It's pretty much how they program a robot in the car industry that has to paint the chassis of a car model (once programmed the robot does it exactly the same every time for that car model).
The tool should eventually recognize if a presented page has been scraped before or that something has changed!
The tool should also try to scrape the name of the files from the screen and use them instead of the suggested files in the download dialog.
I would very much like to participate in a project for such a tool.

I am looking around for help, articles, discussions, etc. on Visual Source Safe 6.0: tools that people have made, how-to articles, command-line help - any of those would be great.
Specifically, I was trying to figure out how in heck you recursively roll back a project tree. The best I came up with was using the SS.exe command line utility provided with vss. I wanted to create a tool that would look in a vss directory structure (somehow) and create a batch file that would go through each project subtree and call a Rollback command-line:
SS.exe Rollback "$/MyRootProject/*" "-VLProj Label w Spaces"<br />
SS.exe Rollback "$/MyRootProject/SubProject1/*" "-VLProj Label w Spaces"<br />
SS.exe Rollback "$/MyRootProject/SubProject2/*" "-VLProj Label w Spaces"<br />
... etc.
However, I cannot get that command line to work with Labels. I don't know why, and that's what help I'm trying to find. I have looked here and on Google and so far have not come up with much VSS help.
Anyone who can point me in the right direction, your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
We all know URL's like this:
default.aspx?code=1234
What we don't want is that visitors change the URL like this:
default.aspx?code=1235
There are a lot of solutions for this. Like decrypting, post variables, etc..
What I want is a pagemanager. The pagemanager saves all the requested pages (for example the last 2 or 5) inside the session of the current browser client. For this you may need to use of the C# LIFO (Last in, first out) stack-statement.
All requested pages will be added to the stack, this means the complete url (path, page, params.). Each page can access the params.
The asp.net 2.0 webconfiguration (ASP.NETWebAdminFiles) is using this technique ( here you can find a screenshot). You can find more information inside the WebAdminPage.cs file. There are a lot of methods in there, I can't figure it out how it works.
I hope that somebody is interested and motivated for writing an article about the pagemanager as I described here. Where each page knows the last page (for example for backbutton functionality), knows the current page with params (for example for database access), all this without seeing the querystring (?code=1234).
