I have created a dataview of the entire dataset and sorted it as per PERIOD DESC.

Robert, Can you tell me how this can be done. I do not want ot query the database for each pfc as it is taking a lot of time.

As you don't seem to have a problem with C# examples I'll just continue it that way  :
For this requirement you won't even need a DataView. Assuming you have a DataTable dt and Period is a formatted string column:
DataTable dt;
string maxPeriod = dt.Compute("MAX(Period)");
DataRow[] rowsWithMaxPeriod = dt.Select("Period = '" + maxPeriod + "'");
Now you have an array with all rows which match the criteria.

Thnx Robert, Though I am a VB Guy, the C# code is fine with me. I have gone through your code. From what I understand, maxPeriod gets the maximum period of all the rows. However I fail to understand the second line that you have mentioned. to filter the records. Could you plz explain it to me. Also, as I had mentioned in my previous reply, I need to obtain the price for the maximum period. However, consider that there is no price for a particular record for the maximum period, then I need to find the previous price (previous month and son on...). I hope you get what I want to say.

I thought I understood you but now I'm not totally sure anymore
The Select function returns all rows of a table as an array who fullfill a given criteria. Thus the given statement returns all rows which have the maximum period set.
To avoid further misunderstanding could you post a snippet of the data you have and tell me what the result should be for this? And please clarify me on the price. In a previous post you said that the data is already filtered with <> 0 but now you say I have to take it into account here. I'm a bit irritated.

Hey Robert, I am extremely sorry for the trouble. Since I am quite new to .Net, I could not explain the exact issue that I am having and the steps that I have followed. However, the good news is that I have found a way, thanks to the steps you have provided.
I am using a dataview to store the entire 24 months data. Then I am getting the records for which I need to obtain the price in another dataset. Then I loop this dataset and in this loop I run another loop on the dataview. Since I have sorted the data in the dataview as per PERIOD DESC, the first occurrence of the data is the price that is needed. When the price is obtained, it is updated in the database and exit loop.
This is actually saving a lot of time that my earlier procedure was taking. Since The Data goes into lakhs, the processing time consumed is very crutial.
Finally, I want ot thank you once again for helping me out and bearing with me for the last few days. Next time if I have a problem, I surely know whom I need to turn to...

I have been using the interop word 11 object to build link fields in word so
I can include word excel and powerpoint documents inside a Word document.
The links build fine and when I open the document I cna highlight the link
fields and hit F9 to update them and pull in the target document.
The problem is that I would really like to be able to this from
inside vb.net so the end users doesnt have to do it manually.
The following code should do exactly this but it just doesnt work.
Can anyone explain why this is? thanks.

The easiest way to convert the code from VB6 to VB.NET is to open the VB6 project in Visual Studio 2005. VS will convert the project to VS 2005 and also convert the VB6 code to .NET (as much as it can anyway). You can then fix any remaining code manually.

Hi
I made a program that creates a desktop (by CreateDesktop API) and runs an application in that desktop, after switching to the new desktop.
Everything goes fine up to here and the program is run in the new desktop.
The problem is
that I want to switch back to the first (i.e. Default) desktop while the other program is still running in the new desktop.
I tried switchdesktop once again, and even tried running an other application in the Default desktop, but the Default user was not shown in any case.
My question is how can I switch between different desktops (in the same window station) where by swithching I mean giving UserInput to each.

Hi Guys, I am displaying data in a datagrid control using a dataset. I want to select a particular record from the datagrid when I click using the mouse. The record details need to be displayed in a few textboxes which can be modified. Then the record needs to be updated back to the database.
Can anyone plz provide some solution for this. I am relatively new to .NET with no formal training.

In the DataGrid1_CurrentCellChanged event use something like this:
TextBox1.Text = DataTable1.Rows(BindingContext(DataTable1).Position).Item("Field1")
In the Validated event of the TextBox1 write back the text value to DataTable1.

I have a pdf file and using GhostScript to convert a copy of png for preview.
and then I have a delete btn to delete the preview file.
However, the file is previewing in the picture box.
I have try to set the picBox.image = nothing first and then delete the file,
It still doesn't, Error on other application is useing the file.
I have try to dispose the picbox first, It works fine.
So, does any method to re-init the picbox?
or any other method to meet the target?

When an Image object loads an image file, it's locked until the Image object is disposed. When you dispose of the picturebox, it naturally disposes it's Image object also. You can dispose of the Image object without disposing the picturebox, though.
Get a reference to the image in the picturebox before you remove the reference from the picturebox, so that you can dispose of the Image object:
image as Image = myPictureBox.Image
myPictureBox.Image = Nothing
image.Dispose()
