I wolud like to follow the activities of a user once the user is logged into the system. How can I do that using sessions in ASP.NET or any VB.NET.

Hi, you will have to make this a bit clearer. I dont have an answer, but in VB, you could log every key stroke, or you can have a timer and continually check which programs are running. depends what u want to log

Actually, I want a mechanism of reckognising which user is making which request in a multiuser enviroment so I can log events for each user. For instance, so many users can request the same page, I should be capable of logging the act of each one. Any further clearance no problem.

I had made an application in VB 6 in which i used Bar Code. I printed the barcode on the Employee Card. You dun have to do any thing there are fonts available throug which u can make bar code. e.g. if u have a report in which u want to have barcode just chage the font of the field the barcode will be displayed. and for reading barcode u dun have to code when bar code reader will read the bar code a text(against which bar code was generated) will be available where the cursor will be blinking. u can search bar code font on net these are free just install these and use

I need to create a web service client for the web service

I tried to modify a large number of examples from different textbooks and internet sites. Not even one works!
Convinced as I am that it should not be difficult I have the brutality to ask you to provide me with a working example. A very simple example will do. For instance a simple application or html page on which the user provides an 'item number' and the page/application shows the results by sending information to the web service and showing that information on the html-page.
(We used to do this with a 'post', but this method is no longer supported by the web service)

Build your own example. Create a WebService with but a single method in it. All it does is return the number 1. This is as simple as it gets...
If you can't get a single example to work, what makes you think that anything anyone sends you will work either?
A WebService doesn't return an HTML page, unless it's written to do so. It's normal return is just some data like any other method you find in a class. It's up to your Web Forms ASP.NET code to do something to format the data and present the new page to the user.

There isn't much to this. It's best to have IIS installed on the machine you're developing this web service on. Preferrably installed BEFORE Visual Studio .NET was installed.
All you have to do is create a Web Service project, tell it the server and project name you want to use, then add code for your WebMethods to the class. Build the project, and a web browser will open to test it.
A quick example class looks something like this:

As my Question before,
I have search for "Invalid parameter used" on the google.
I found that many programmer also get this problem,
When some image dispose, like myPictureBox.image.dispose(),
It will always have the error "Invalid parameter used"
Any article for this issue?

No. I've never had the problem. It sounds like your missing a step in your code, like not setting the Image property to Nothing after your dispose the Image?

I have an Error after finish a msgbox line.
After I comment the line, it works fine.
The error is
An unhandled exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' Occured in system.windows.forms.dll
Additional information: Invalid parameter used.
What's wrong??

Hi, I am using the following code to update records in an access table using vb.net.
Dim dr As OleDbDataReader
Dim qry As New OleDbCommand
Dim ucon As New OleDbConnection
Dim inssql As String
inssql = "Update PriceTable set Price = " & newprice & " where ID = '" & id1 & "' and Period = '" & Trim(period) & "'"
qry = New OleDbCommand(inssql, ucon)
dr = qry.ExecuteScalar
What I want to check is if the query has been executed correctly. i.e. if id1 (id1 matches with ID from PriceTable) exists in PriceTable, then it will be executed successfully. However, if the id1 is not present in PriceTable (id1 does not match with ID in PriceTable), then how do I know that the qry has not been executed.
Please provide assistance ASAP.

This is the statement that does Update, Insert and Delete.
It returns the number of rows affected.

ExecuteNonQuery it returns no of rows effected by the query. use this:

Thnx guys for your reply. I will try out your solution. However, what I need to know is whether every execute statement is successfully completed. If not, then I need to maintain a log of the records (ID's, Price) which have not been executed successfully for the user to analyze. How can this be done.

That is what ExecuteNonQuery returns.
It returns the number of rows affected by the said query. So if it returns 0 it means no rows affected.

This can be done is the database's SQL code. Table triggers are commonly used to log information such as this.
Though, this technique is not supported in Access! Real SQL databases only!
