I have an that loads up a pdf file. I would like to have a button on the page that will print out that pdf. Any ideas?

Got it. Alot easier than I was thinking. For anyone else who would like to know.
iframename.window.print() will open the print dialog, which for my iframe happens to be Acrobats printer dialog.

When asp.net web project is compiled session is expired.
Any way to prevent this? It may be a problem while updating web site since it will destroy currently active users session.

Could someone tell me where to get an ASP script for file sharing?
A script where users could download/upload files.
I found some free scripts but none had a possibility to add description to a file. (There is something on www.OverApps.com but the part for file sharing doesn't work.)

I am trying to start a new Web project in InterDev and am failing at the first page!
The Property sheet asks for the name of my web Server. I have IIS installed and running on my machine so I type in the name of my computer e.g. MyComputer.
It brings up an error message "Unable to contact Web server http://MyComputer".
What am I doing wrong?
I usually work in Visual Studio C++ 6.0 - far less confusing!

Make sure you have Front Page Server Extensions installed.

First port of call is: Open Internet Explorer (or *cough* Netscape *cough* if you use that instead) and type in http://[your computer name]/
If you get an IIS under construction/administration page or a list of sub-folders then it is working and you have other problems.
If you do not get anything then try http://127.0.0.1/, if that does not work then go Tools \ Internet Options \ Connections \ LAN Settings \ Advanced and make sure your computer name is written into the "Do not use proxy server for addresses begining with:"
If that does not help then... sorry can't help further

Thanks guys - the Front Page Server Extensions were installed but needed configuration. Once I had done that, whoopee!
Now I'm off into the dark and mysterious world of Web Project development.

I am using Remote Scripting but I encounter a problem in passing large amount of data. Remote Scripting will not pass more than 2083 character from Client page to ASP page.
This article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q274852)describe the problem in detail.
Does anybody know how to solve the problem ?
What are the alternative technologies to Remote Scripting to pass large data?

Is this an Intranet or Internet type application (i.e. do you know exactly which browser and version is used)? If the client definitely has MSXML 3 (which comes with IE5.5+), you could try the XMLHTTP object.

Using SSL you can basically promise clients that any form data whether GET/POST is encrypted using 128 bits encryption before leaving their client computer and then decrypted upon arrival to the server...?
Is That all there is to it...? I had a friend explain the idea behind it once and he made it sound like you had to encrypt the data using a module (JScript=Client/Perl=Server). However the more I read the more I think...you don't actually do this...and thats why you pay $$$ for SSL...?
Basically if I coded a order-entry form so long as the site is SSL enabled I basically don't have to do any additional coding...correct...?
Just HTML form and submit...?

Yes, assuming both client and server support 128bit encryption. Some older programs support only 40-bit encryption.
The part of SSL you need to pay $$$ for is the "server certificate", a digital ID that proves the server's identity to the client.

I have some explaining to do for some potential clients and thought it'd be a great idea to get the gist of it before pulling any sales pitch.

i am trying to detect the users actions in response to a download dialog generated by windows.(when the user presses a link).IS there any way to find whether the user has said YES or NO to the download dialog.Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Preload images like this:
if (document.images)
{

}
Add function to swap images:
function SwapImage(TargetImageName, SourceImageName)
{
if (document.images)
document[TargetImageName].src = eval(SourceImageName+".src");
}
Call it like this:
<img src="something.gif" OnMouseOver="SwapImage('targetImg1','image2');" OnMouseOut="SwapImage('targetImg1','image1');">

I have an ASP page which contains a couple of ASP blocks. I want to know if there is any way in which I can tell the IIS ASP processor not to process certain blocks? e.g. Block A, process, Block B, process, Block C, don't process, Block D, process.

I've always thought that this is what IF statements are for...
If I need to temporary comment a block of code in ASP I usually do this:
If False Then
.....
' Code I don't want anymore
.....
End If

Ok let me explain this again.
I don't want the ASP processor to process the blocks, but I do want the actual ASP code to be sent through to the browser as is. So an If statement unfortunatley does not work, as it simply excludes the ASP from the HTML stream bit.

Here you go again with your strange questions...
If this is not going to dynamically change (you never process block D, but always process blocks A, B and C) all you need to do is remove or HTMLEncode <% and %> brackets around the block D.
If it will dynamically change you can save blocks in separate files and programmatically ether execute them via Server.Execute or read them from files as text and Response.Write them to client.
