Hello everyone,

I need your help to make a decision. I want to make a client/server program working like this :

At the client program, the user will make same selections, write some info etc. in a wizard like interface. When he/she is done and click the finish button all selections and infos will be sent to the server. All problems shall handled; for instance if the server does not reply for some reason the client should queue the ready-to-send data for a while, or if the internet goes down again queue the data and wait until the internet is back again etc. The ready-to-send data should also include a header part that identifies the client itself and some other useful information. All these information may crypted.

The server will listen some ports -or just one port for incoming trasmissions. It will have an effective queue structure so that no incoming data is going to lost due to long waiting periods. Also the server should refuse incoming data that do not have a proper header or that do not have a client id matching the list that the server itself holds.

As you guess there may hundreds of clients and more features may be added later, so everything can going a bit more complex.

My question is how should I write such a program. Using .NET Remoting, Network Programming or what else? Or am I on the wrong way and should use some othe approach ?

I will appreciate any help about the issue.

I'm pretty charmed by WebServices. These act like a website but are just a litte more capable of handeling application (client) to server communication. You can secure data sent and when 'something' goes wrong during data retrieval or while sending, IIS handles your errors which you can catch easily. You can verify incoming data and you have no fancy security issues since they're all handled by IIS (you must trust those guys at Microsoft though Wink | ;-)

I've created several apps using WebServices and i'm pretty happy about them. I'm really not into creating own 'servers' and handling TCP stuff so pretty obvious i chose WebServices, i really think you should look at them, and if they don't fit your needs, you can always switch to a diffrent solution Wink | ;-)

Dear All,

Please let me know how to remove the string "For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp." when the method System.Diagnostics.EventLog.WriteEntry() is used to write events into Windows Event Log.

The link is misleading for all non microsoft projects and will add unnecessary confusion for those who see the events.

Web Part Template error

Hello friends,

I have Visual studio 2005 installed on my Windwos 2003 server. I have installed Sharepoint services also.

Now I installed "Web Part Template for visual studio .net" on this computer.

But when I try to create a new project, VS2005 is not showing the WebPart Template.

Can anybody suggest , what could be the reason. I have tried several times, install/uninstall the webpart template. But no use.

Please help to fix this problem.

Hi sandeeb, I think that the following code is enough to handle the gridview checkbox events, I've used this for many times, if there is a better way it is ok.

--> A service which implements service [as per contract]
--> i need to go ahead to implement call back feature

Hello,

I have a webBrowser control on my windows form. I also have a textBox, in which I allow my user to enter a letter of a word and hit a button to highlight all the occurances of the entered letter/word.

Here's the button code:

webBrowser1.Document.Body.InnerHtml = webBrowser1.Document.Body.InnerHtml.Replace(textBox1.Text, "<font color=\"red\">" + textBox1.Text + "</font>");

The problem is, if the user enters 'a', for instance, every single 'a' will be replaced and that's a huge problem. Imagine I have: <a href="url">link</a>! And maybe it gets worse if he enters: < or >.

How can I solve this?

I have added comboboxcolumn in datagridview. It is working fine till adding different values to different cells.

But, at the time of selection, i have to do double click on that perticular cell to populate that combobox. I am confused!! what to do for this. I need it working with a single click.

What is the easiest way to save a database password in my xml settings file? I'm currently writing all my db connection settings to an xml file. How can I write out the password so that people cannot read it?

I guess you need to come up with some sort of encryption ( or better yet, find one in the system.cryptography namespace ) and use it to hide the password.

You can use one of the crypting alorithms under the System.Security.Cryptography namespace. These algorithms will quite help you. And there are a lot of info about these algorithms on the net if you are interested in. My favourite one is the Rijndael algorithm.

On the other hand you can make your own algorithm Cool | :cool:

. Like when writing the passwords to the xml file -if the passwords you are protecting are not as important- simply taking the complement of all characters, and when reading back again taking the complement of all characters. This is not the way to stop crackers but at least it is a way Wink | ;)

i'd be tempted to use a hash in this situation rather than a 2-way encrypt
