Hello, where can I found an example to communicate with a database in windows mobile (in native c++ and simple sql strings)

I found on the net that I must use OLEDB with SQL Server Mobile

In java it's very simple to do that

hi everybody,
got a problem on developing with vstudio2003 for my mobile device which is an anubis typhoon 4500sd.
i wrote a small and simple helloworld application with one button on a form that shows a simple messagebox. Everything works fine under the pocketPC 2003- emulator.
but when i build a cab- file (target- device: ARMV4) ,copy it to my SD- Card and install this on my device, the application doesn't start. the installation- procedure seems to work well, no error- messages, but when it's finished and i click the installed icon, nothing happens.
the manual says that the compact- framework is already installed on this device (in ROM), but even when i try to install it again by copying and installing the necessary files to the device (netcf.all.wce4.armv4.cab) the behavior of the helloworld-app won't change. so, the situation today is that none of the vstudio2003- apps that i have build and deployed as cab-file to my device, works.
i have no idea of what might be wrong, perhaps anyone of you ?

Issues with paint event in .netcf after adding sip/menu

I have a form that initially did not have a sip or menu.

Form works fine but needed to add sip for easier editing of user fields.

When sip/menu added, the paint event only fires on the first entry into the form and not subsequent entries.

Paint event would always fire on all loads of the form before menu/sip added.

No additional code added outside of what was added by the designer when sip/menu added.

I've tried refresh and invaliding different components on the form the paint event does not get to the form.

Confused | :confused:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

In my understanding, Windows OS for device is divided into two sub-categories, Windows Mobile and Window Embedded. And in Window Mobile, there are two sub-categories, Window Mobile Pocket PC Edition and Windows Mobile Smart Phone Edition.

Is my understanding correct?

I have a further question, what is the common points and differences between Windows Mobile Pocket PC Edition and Windows Mobile Smart Phone Edition?

I'm using C# to develop an application for an ARM handheld that uses PocketPC 2003. Part of the time I work on an XP machine at home, and part of the time on a Win2K SR4 machine at work. The application runs under the .NET Compact Framework 2.0. It includes a set of Windows forms for data entry. The application looks fine in the VS design view on the XP machine and deploys properly to the handheld. However, when I tried to open the project's design view under Visual Studio 2005 Professional on the W2K machine at work, I received an error message stating that an input string was improperly formatted and the form did not load. I found a reference to what appeared to be an identical error in Microsoft's Knowledge Base[^]. However, the error persisted even after I downloaded and installed the hotfix developed to fix the error. I'm wondering whether anyone else has encountered this problem, and if so, whether they might have found a workaround.

Incidentally, I can build and deploy the solution from my Win2K machine and it runs properly, either under the PocketPC 2003 emulator or on the handheld itself. I just can't make any changes in the design editor on the Win2K machine because the design editor won't load. This problem occurs even if I create a new smart device project in either C# or VB, so it's not just this specific project. It doesn't occur if I create a smart device project in VC++, however. I've repaired VS 2005 through the Add/Remove Programs utility, to no avail. I'm afraid the answer might be a complete re-install of VS 2005 but I dread doing that. I'd be grateful for any ideas or suggestions.

I'm trying to use the macro feature of eVC4.0 to add the capability of updating the build number every time my project is compiled/built (there is no built in capability for doing this). So I hunted down so information on how others had got 'er done. All the information I could find was for doing it with the normal Visual Studio (probably the problem). But I've come to the conclusion that my problem is that the VBscript events don't seem to be triggering the handler that I'm defining. i.e. the following code should open a message box when I built the project and it does not!

Can anyone tell me why these VBscript events are not firing within eMbedded Visual C++? There is very little documentation on this. There is one topic that is called "Handling Events", and they cite an example using the "Application_BeforeApplicationShutDown()" event handler but I can't seem to get that one to work either.

Is there some way to turn these events on or make them call my handler?

I am a C# programmer with about 4 years development experience. I currently busy with an Equipment Management System. I want to add a Vehicle Tracking feature on the system. I have done a couple of searches on the net, but the results I get are not specific.

Can anyone plz tell me what Hardware and software I need to use GPS on my windows application.I would most propably appreciate a list of all hardware and software necessary for my application to work, and possibly a step-by-step guidelines.

Either CodeProject or CodeGuru has a very nice article on interfacing to a piece of hardware. I don't recall the details - it has been too long. I recall the article impressed me.

Also, the hardware manufacturer probably has a SDK available. You might have to pick up the phone and call.

I have a problem making a new Data Source from VS2005. I have made a new
Widows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK Project. I’m going through Data
-> Add New Data Source… -> Database -> New Connection… -> Microsoft SQL Server Mobile Edition
(or through Server Explorer). I’m creating new database (or browsing existing).
The connection test ends with success and when I press OK I get such message box:
“Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not by
installed”

I have installed VS2005 with Widows Mobile 5.0 Pocket Pc SDK – no difference!

What’s wrong?

Multi modal dialog mobile application - crash

I am producing a mobile application using embedded VC++ 4 which contains multiple dialogs.

It was intended to step through the dialogs using a next button which would open the next dialog and close the current dialog. Also a previous button which does a similar thing.

The code used to open the next and close current is

Class2 dlgClass2(this);
nRetCode = dlgClass2.DoModal();
CDialog::OnCancel();

And for the previous button on the dlgClass2 button
Class1 dlgClass1(this);
nRetCode = dlgClass1.DoModal();
CDialog::OnCancel();

However by continually selecting next on the dlgClass1 and previous on dlgClass2 the application crashes after the 11th or 12th attempt.

Does anyone know please why this is happening? Are you able to close the current dialog or does it need to remain open?

DoModal creates a nested message loop. Eventually you get a stack overflow.

To avoid this, consider using the dialog's Create function. That creates a modeless dialog - messages are then pumped by the main thread's Run function (if all dialogs are modal) or by the most recent modal dialog on the thread.

I've digged for a while in the CF2.0 msnd documentation, and I couldn't find any way to send mails like with the .NET Framework. I didn't find any class to send mail. Is there any buil't way to send mails with VB.NET using CF2.0 and vstudio 2005 standard?

You can find a step-by-step example at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454896.aspx (see Exercise 2 in the example). The example uses CF1.0 but it should work under 2.0.

Mobile Web Application is very new for me. And i tried to make a simple project about it. So i used VS 2003 and created a Mobile Web Application. I used NWB 4.0 to display the page. But the page couldn't be displayed ( the page could be displayed in IE ) . I only saw the earth icon was always moving and nothing more.

So why's that happened? And how could i solve this problem?

Hi folks,

I have to write a background application for a mobile terminal (equipped with
integrated scaner engine, keyboard, serial port and so on...) with a CE4.2 OS.
The app shall read data from the serial port, do a little magic with this data
(changing some letters against others, deleting carrige returns) and insert the
result into a textbox of the current foreground application.

Serial communication isn't the problem, but inserting the data into the textbox
is a real head-scratcher to me. Confused | :confused:

I wrote a similar application for a normal PC. Then I used the SendKeys class
to to the job, but unfortunately this class isn't available in the Compact
Framework. Frown | :(

I thought about using P/Invoke, but I don't have a clue which function of which
dll I should use... Sniff | :^)

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

I started reading about synchronizing SQLServer CE. It involves IIS, shadow folders and SQL Server 2000.
What if all our data is on Oracle? Without going too deep, is there a way for IIS to use that instead?

I have no IIS experience. If there is a way to avoid that I'd prefer it.

I try to develop my first PDA application, and it works fine, until I not use database functionality.
I try to manage an access database via ODBC, but System.Data.ODBC is missing in my mobile solution, what do I need to make this work?

Need solution for Win Mobile 5, and 2003 too.

Or is there better format, or way for databases on PDA?

I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional, and SQLExpress 2005.
