C++ vs. C#: Developing a highly scalable IOCP server zulat9-Dec-06 0:28 zulat 9-Dec-06 0:28  Hello, Recently I have been involved in a debate as to what environment (C# or C++) is better for developing a highly scalable Completion Ports based server capable of handling thousands of simultaneous connections (namely, its network layer). The issue is still open. I would really like to hear opinion of the community with all the pros and cons (within boundaries of the task, i.e. - network layer) of both environments. Twine 9-Dec-06 10:53     FWIW, I believe that C# (or at least earlier versions of C#) did not have direct access to the APIs for using I/O Completion Ports - you had to basically do the C# equivalent of LoadLibrary(...)/GetProcAddress(...) (i.e. P/Invoke) to get to and make use of the functions.    Personally, I have always believed that if you have to use P/Invoke for the meat of your application, you are likely trying to wedge it into the wrong platform.    Peace! -=- James If you think it costs a lot to do it right, just wait until you find out how much it costs to do it wrong!
