I will also post this in VB forum. I have a general question. I want to create a "webbased, interactive, and collaborative classroom learning tool". I believe ASP would be a good language for this. However, I also have a strong need to become proficient in VB. My application will be a type of question and answer game to be used in the classroom.
Here is my question; If I first build it entirely VB.net as a VB application, how easy is it to then move it to the Web using ASP?
You can tell from my question, I am not an expert in either or I wouldn't be asking. I know some VB but no ASP. I have six months to work on this so I am somewhat confident I can do whatever needs to be done.

Hai,
i am working on project which is having 10 modules already,used ASP.net,vb.net for coding.in this new technologies are not included like websevices,ajax.
Now i am including new module.i want to use c# for coding,is it possible to integrate with existing modules others are used vb.net.
and what thenew technologies i can use ,which can make my screen appearence rich and makes my job easier, Please send the possibilities

Hi,
you can always integrate VB.NET and C# assemblies together if they maintain CTS properly.
For new technologies, I can say that you are well aware of AJAX and WebService. What I can say that you try scriptoculous and dojo libraries for rich user interface.

To learn about ajax technology please search google. you will definitely get good links.
The libraries that I had mentioned are javascript libraries with inbuilt AJAX and effect in it. It will make your life easy for good looks of your pages.

Dojo[^]
Dojo will give you better effects than Scriptaculous, but Scriptaculous is easier to use.
Both the libraries are free.

Hai Friends,
I have a Requirement ,in that Dynamically Textboxes and Dropdowns will be generated
then page will become large, when i click on any dropdownlist(autopostback = true)
it is being post backed, its again starting from page begining
agin i am going to that dropdownlist position,again doing some thing
not doing like this,when i click on it, post back should be done and ctrl should be there only,is there any solution for it?
actually iam using SMARTNAVIGATION = TRUE,It is working fine, postback is done, ctrl is there only
but some times ,it is giving problems some times
we can use ajax for it
but other than that is there any solution for it?

smart navigation is not a good solution, it would not work in Mozilla.

why not... create web request thru javascript. But honestly speaking as per my understading we are all buying same fruits but with different color...
AJAX, POSTBACKURL, XMLHTTPRequest all feature do the same job more and less....
what is your view...

I have a GridView that displays rows of pictures along with text that describes the pictures. One of the columns in the GridView is a template column. In that column I have added a HyperLink. When a user clicks on the HyperLink I want it to go to another page but I want to pass this page the value from another column (my primary key column) in the GridView. So far I have defined the PostBackURL in the HyperLink but how can I get the value from my primary key column in order to pass it as a parameter? Thanks.

U can define DataKeyNames="PrimaryKey" in the html of gridview and on code behind u can do this way:

ID = grdTitlePlantInformationView.DataKeys(oGridViewRow.RowIndex)("PrimaryKey").ToString

could anyone help me on how i can connect asp.net page to read and displa data from an excel file in asp.net page.
The first row of the Excel, i want to use as the fields contains caption names and the names is made up of characters combined with other charcaters like (%, ', -, /, @).

the Xls file is on the client. Im also considering connecting the asp page to the Excel file on a remote(web) server

just pass it in the query string... in App A do:

Then check it in AppB, you could also encrypt the querty string to protect its contents.

The reason the answers do not change is, reality does not change. If the answers you're getting don't answer your question, try rephrasing it, explaining what it is you want to do, which these answers don't help you with. Has anyone used web parts and Atlas, or ASP.NET Extentions as it is now known, Update Panel?
I found this [^] video showing the exact functionality I need but it was done with a beta version. The video above using a setting in the tagMapping element of the web.config file, however I can't find any reference to how it works with the release version.
The problem is that when placing web parts (nothing to do with SharePoint) on a page inside an update panel and clicking the verb menu (close, minimize) for any web part. The first action works fine however the menu no longer works.

From what I know the WebPart is still under development, it means that it's in the future features of the ASP.NET AJAX and this error (as well as other errors with the web part/ajax) is still remained in the January CTP.

I am working on an intranet application that was written in ASP with VB6 that hid everything but the window and title bar. With the upgrade for IE7 out I have the need to either reproduce this in IE7, which doesnt look promising, or to replace the use of the querystring with something other than session since we utilize a web farm environment. So far the POST method that a co-worker has found has not worked correctly.
Another issue with this is the information that will be stored is sensitive.
Any ideas?

Just to clarify: your currently using the query string to store sensitive information that obviously you want hidden if the address bar is visible?
Have you looked at using a central session store for the web farm? Alternatively I'm sure theres some way to store the session data on the client.

Yes we are currently utilizing a hidden address bar to hold login/other information in the querystring. The site itself utilizes hidden fields to hold various variable values but the problem is mainly on the login portion where it is a separate "application" so I am unsure if the session between apps would even be saved and when I spoke with the server admin he didnt seem to know anything about a session state management server. Previously the only way that anyone knew of to transfer that information was through a querystring.
