If you could pick anything, what would you like to see on a "CP overview" page?
Personally, i'm interested in seeing:
- new / updated articles
- popular articles
- forum watches
- current poll + poll results
- site search
Most of these are currently on the main page, along with a lot of other stuff i never use (ads, articles menu, news, etc...)
Thoughts?

We probably can't remove those. I doubt we'd make Chris happy. 
My CP Overview page would look exactly like yours. I'd probably expand the forum watches for that page to the last 10 threads, though. I'd have a short summary of the first post underneath the title (first 100 characters?) A count of how many messages posted in each thread since my last visit, etc. (Some of those are plans I have for the current forum watch code...)
I'd bump the poll up near the top of the page, since I'd like to give it a bit more visibility. I'd make the article categories I watch a little bit more fine-grained.
I'd get rid of the product showcase, since I don't care. Or at least move it down the page a lot, so I don't have to care.
etc. etc. etc.

Probably not. And FWIW, i don't block ads on CP (except for flash ads, which i block everywhere) - but i don't really see them either. It's as though i've developed blind spots. Personally, i'd just as soon have one ad per page, "pinned" next to a HUD of sorts (recent articles, threads, maybe search...)

Can you do views? How about a new thread view? One that only shows the new posts in trees.
For example, if message is new, keep it and all its children.
If message is old, hide up to node that has new child post.
Old
--> Old (Hide)
--> Old (Hide because of parent)
--> Old (Show because of child)
--> Old (Hide)
--> Old (Hide because of parent)
--> New (Show)
--> New (Show)
--> New (Show because of parent)

Instead of doing forum watches the way you have them, how about a tabbed preview like the lounge has for each thread type, if you're worried about real estate?

That really only makes sense for The Lounge (and, maybe, The Soapbox). Most other forums pretty much stick to a single type of message (for thread heads anyway).
Now, it would be nice to have an "unanswered questions" ForumWatch...

No, no, no, what I meant was using a tabbed display for the watch forums so that you won't have too many windows on the right hand side, just one with tabs. Then again, it may not look good either.

I like the latest post in the CPHog profile. Any chance you can add it as a watch forum? Also, any chance you can add the watch forums to the main CP page? Once in CP, I had to click on Lounge before I could visit CPHog which is annoying.
