I need to connect my coputers to the switch, and am confused about the cable end structure:
Shall i use both end straigh cable, or both end crossover cable, or one end cross(switch) and the other straight(computer).
Please tell and emphasise.

crossover cables are only used to connect two PCs directly to each other.

Straight. Just a plain cable that matches your network (e.g. CAT-5e).
And there is only ONE type of crossover cable. crossing over twice would lead you back to a normal cable, just with more interference.
In addition to the other answer:
You might also use a crossover cable to connect two switches if neither of them has an uplink port.

Straight cable can be problematic because you only have so much room behind your computer. This means the cable can only be so long. I would get curvy cable.

No, straight cables are the way to go. The bits cannot take the high-speed curving and get all dizzy and confused.

With the correct bit throttling diode, that's not a problem. The bits with then recognize and slow down for turns so they don't jump from wire-to-wire (this is the primary cause of bandwidth collisions).

Hi,
I want to map a USB device that is accessible over a serial port to another port because the asigned port is not available in the configuration of the application (yes, blame the application developer!).
All the lower numbers are marked "(used)", but in the Device Manager I can't see what device/component uses this port number. I have enabled 'Show hidden devices' but it is still not there.
How can I see what device/component is using the port? I need just some information (driver name, component name ...) to maybe remember what I installed that could create this problem.

I'd try using a product by Lavalys called Everest. It seems to tell you a lot more than you might be able to find on your own. I always have a copy handy (engineers license).

A Null-Modem-Cable is a normal serial cable (usually RS-232 to RS-232) with a certain pin-to-pin mapping.
If you need one, and have a serial cable you can easily access, you could make it yourself.
I have some trouble understanding what you are trying to achieve. Could you explain what you are trying to do?

Thanks for your reply. I mean if I have a cable, how to check if it is a null modem cable or not because the problem is I have asked a saler in a computer shop to give me a null modem cable and he did gave me a cable but when I tried to communicate two DCE devices it didn't work!! So is there a way to check the cable according to the resistance/voltage between pins from both ends?

the pins are connected differently. Google up the pinout/wiring diagrams and use a multimeter to check connectivity.

You're not measuring voltage. You're measuring resistance, or in your case, you're looking for the lack of it between two pins.

hi,
to access my wireless camera i m doing ip passthrough for my wireless camera in my router , after doing that i m not able to ing my ip add ( WAN ) from outside my network , when i disable ip passthrough again i m ableto ping my wan ip ... i m using westell 327 router.. . i m doing something wrong . & what it has to do with my WAN side ip add.
plz suggest me....

AFAICT, if you put your camera in the "DMZ", you're essentially forwarding all outside-originating traffic to the camera's internal IP. It's entirely possible the camera won't respond to an ICMP Echo packet. Maybe you have a setup where the ICMP Echo isn't being routed back to the WAN.

I think when you enable pass through it defaults all traffic to the pass through IP. Make a new rule for ICMP and set it to your WAN IP. See if you can ping after that.

I need some ideas to use optical sensors of any type to find the speed and direction of motion of a motor. The shaft of the motor is fitted with a disk as shown below. Any sections may be filled with white and/or black colors to note the transition.
