Hi.
I am having problems with printing. I want to print out an invoice, but I also want to be able to have order details on the same page. I don't know how to do it.

As you're doing ASP.NET, the browser does the printing, all you can do is format a page so that it's ready to be printed in the way you want it to.

Hi,
I am a beginner in the area and have some questions regarding importing of data from another web page, and importing table from html to excel.
I guess vbscript is related to ASP, so I hope its ok to post here...
Anyway, I'll just describe my application:
Lets say this web site I need to download tables from is www.cnn.com
Inside this site lets say there are 10 links to internal pages, and in those pages there are the tables I need (besides many text that I don't).
I need to download all the tables from those internal pages to excel. I would like to have a macro button in excel that will create a new sheet with all that data.
I saw that if I just copy the html code between ..... and just rename it in a new word pad file X.xls, and open it, I get almost a nice table in excel (almost - somehow with no grids between the cells of the entire sheet - dont know why).
Knowing that I can run a script (vbscript) to look for the string "table" and than copy all the data until the string , My problems are:
1) I write a script, but how do I call to a different web site, so my script will run on it?
2) Lets complicate: I know only the link to the index page (www.cnn.com), from there I need my script to look for all the tables inside the internal pages. (or all the tables, starting with a very specific word), and each one is on a different web page (different link). (do I write a loop which look for "href .... "? but how do I run over an entire html file (insert all between .... into a string? - that's too long...? I know there is " InStr" , but I guess it won't work in this case.
3) I want to copy between until . Again, there is a lot of data between and string is a limited variable. How do I do that.
4) After fixing those two, how will I run my script from the excel (but this, I guess will be much easier)?

Hey
Was just wondering if there is an application level event that gets fired when a user is authenticated.
Basically want i want to do is retrieve the user's ID from the aspnetdb.mdf and store it in a session variable when the user authenticates.
If any one has any better methods then feel free to point me in the right direction.

Heres what I'm trying to do. In my "Extranet" Application I'm working on when a user logs in it hits the database and populates a Collection with the information I want to use about the user throughout their visit (and beyond). Instead of hitting the database each time I want a piece of the information I would like to take that Collection and write it to an XML document for retrieval later, is there a way to do this? I'm not finding many examples of this.

I am creating a site, and wanted to instigate a basic landing page..
i thought perhaps i could use Response.Redirect to put a 5second delay on the transfer to index.aspx
any suggestions would be fantastic..

If you want to delay something you will probably need to use:
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)

You should try to do the delay in the browser instead of on the server. As long as the request is blocked on the server, it will not answer to any other request from the browser.
The Javascript window.setTimeout method can be used to run code after a delay.

That is a great point. I am not sure why you would want to delay a redirect anyway.

basically i have just taken an asp.net exam and i am trying to put the skills to practical use. unfortunately i am not familiar with javascript but if you could give me more details i am more than willing to research.

ASP.NET is a framework which generates HTML on the server. Javascript is the language that runs in your browser, and the language in which ASP.NET generates code to do anything that runs on the client ( such as validation ). Buy a javascript book and work through it, or look up some tutorials on the web.

Hello Friends I am trying to find a method to prevent the users from opening the page directly without opening the home page / login page.For ex: I have 5 forms/pages in asp.net.If i am trying to open the any one of the page without opening first/login page it simply open. What should i do to prevent it.But there is some session concept. I don't to how to incorporate in my application. I am expecting somebody help in this issue.

There R many ways of doing it.
Method 1: (Using Sessions)
in the page load event of login page
create a session variable like Session["isValid"]="Valid";
In the load event of the other pages,
check if the session variable isValid exists.
i.e.
if( Session["isValid"]==null)
Response.Redirect("Home.aspx");
Method 2: (Using forms authentication)
This is the most reliable one and widely used by the developers.

The Server.Transfer will just continue with execution of the new file, sending output to the same Response object. This means that the url of the page will not change.
A Response.Redirect will create a redirection page that is sent to the browser. The browser will then request the new page from the server.

I have installed on my laptop both:VS2003,VS2005.
When I run any VS 2003 application I got the error:
Error while trying to run project:unable to start debugging on the server.You dont have permission to debug the server.Verify that you are a member of the 'Debugger Users' group on the server.
But I have checked the Computer Management and I found the my account(an administrator account) is on of the mentioned group.
I tried many solutions for many days but it is no use.
I hope that someone could help.

hello, i used a System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink
(the hyperlink) server control instead of button. It has a target property that u can set to _blank.
how ever i am not sure how to make the hyperlink look like a button.. perhaps by setting its ImageURL property?

As a redirect is done in server code, it's impossible to select a target for it. The target is decided before the request is sent to the server. If you want a different target, you have to set that in the browser before the request is sent to the server.
You can use Javascript in an html button:

You have the right concept, but you are trying to add the javascript too late. YOu need to add the javascript to the logout button on the page load and it should be on the onClick event. That way the java script will be in the page when the user clicks the button to log out.
