So I went with the G11 and have had it for a little over a week now - and so far it's been great.
I was wondering if you have some great tips on which kind of keystrokes/functions you have "macro'ed"? I'm especially interessed in those you're using in Visual Studio...

Oh, just stuff I use alot. A few things I use frequently would be a template for adding SqlParameter objects, class templates, some methods I use pretty fequently, ... Basically, anything you would use a code snippet for that you use frequently.

is it posible running windows XP to detect if the screen monitor (any type, size, brand) is connected to the ac power line and for how long it had it been in that state (and keep a log file of all changes of ON-OFF state)

Yes, but the monitor would need to have a usb port, and you'd have to know how to detect the monitor via usb, blah blah blah.
No, I don't know specifics, but the method I described so poorly seems viable to me.

I cannot recall how it is called, but there is a technique to query a monitor for possible resolutions, frequencies, etc.
If it is possible to initiate such a check, one might assume that the monitor is off if there is no reply. That, however, ignores old monitors which do not support that mechanism.
Othen than that, you could hire someone to sit in front of the monitor and press buttons accordingly.... child labor, etc....

I think you can use some Old Versions of Nero. But I'm not sure.

What Hardware devices are available to hook up more than 4 EIDE Hard Drives running under Windows 2000?
I currently have 2 drives as masters and 2 drives as slaves in the computer.
In my opinion SCSI devices are way too expensive to use compared to the EIDE drives that keep dropping in price these days.

You can buy an additional IDE controller card. SATA is also available, but make sure you can get Win 2K drivers for the card before buying one.

Hello everybody,
Please tell me, I have a harddrive, I have install Windows XP Professional in it. Now i want to move this Harddrive to another system and i want to run the same windows in other system, but when i do this i got "Blue Screen Error Fatal Error". In windows 98 when i do the same thing, it just load the driver of second system and the run in second pc well. Now please help me out in it.

switching mobos without reinstalling windows is always a gamble. It only works if the boards are very similar. If they're too different it won't work and you have no choice but to reinstall. XP is supposed to be better at this than older versions though. Was the win98 as dual boot, or a different system?

Only You need to reinstall Xp .... ur hardware is changing from ur old machine to ur new second machine.....so it doesn't match.........

I bought a wireless router, NETGEAR, but i cant see it within the wireless connections, my laptop cant see it, even though i can see other wireless routers and access the internet throught them.

Sure it's possible. It should not require a reformat of the hard drive. You MIGHT need to reinstall Windows though. Unless the motherboard you have supports the processor your putting in, you're going to have to replace it - thus requiring changes to Windows.

Assuming your motherboard will let you swap out (most 939, AM2, and LG775 board will)...
Make sure you follow the instructions necessary for the specific OS to support dual-core (the one for Wind2k is different from the one used for XP).
In the mean time, it won't hurt you to run a dual-core CPU until you get your system patched.
If you're going to swap out motherboards, then yes, you will have to re-install Windows.

My experience with nVidia mobos was that I could always get away without reinstalling windows because the mobo drivers while not perfectly universal were close enough that I could always boot normally to install the new versions.

Once bitten, twice shy - I tried that once and it didn't work out well at all. So not I back up my system drive before swapping motherboards, reinstall Windows after installing the new motherboard, and then restore certain files back to their rightful place.
I've only seen Linux handle that gracefully (without a reinstall of the OS).

As long as nothing else changed, this "should" not be necessary. It is always prudent to back up before a major change of any hardware.
With my home computer, which was one of the first dual cores and getting old now, the chip was late so they gave me a single core with the new board and promised me full credit on the X2 when they got it. When the dual core was available, we dropped it in, booted and it of course ignored the core, updated the bios and then it was fine and dandy, no OS change, no reformat.

Hi,
I'm forced to buy a new workstation for our VS 2005 database application developments. The old one, a simple DELL with a 2.5 GHz single core processor, is too slowly. To which features I've to pay attention to get the fastest possible development / compiling / testing environment? Does a Dual Core processor make sense? What about a 64-Bit operating system? How much RAM is recommendable? (We don't work with multimedia-stuff: no video, no music, no 3D rendering and so on, just rather complex database and enterprise application developments).
Is there anybody who could give me some pieces of advice? Thanks in advance!

You may be able to find a pre-built system like I described below, but chances are you'd have to build it yourself. I listed the parts in the order you'd be likely to be able to specify in a prebuilt system (like Dell), but keep in mind that Dell will give you the cheapest crap they can and charge you more money for it. If you build your own system, you KNOW you're getting the best parts available, and you KNOW you'll be getting the best price you can find.
0) CPU Code 2 Duo 6600 (or better)
1) AT LEAST 2gb of RAM, 4gb would be better
2) A decent PCIe video card (nVidia would be my choice) If you're gonna go with Vista, I would recommend a card that would at least support DirectX 10.
3) A 650 watt power supply
4) A wide screen monitor so you can see more source code on the screen - nothing smaller than 22-inch.
5) Motherboard with a 680i chipset
6) A decent heatsink/fan combo - I use and recommend the Termaltake Ultra 120.
7) A decent case that is big enough to permit decent air flow. make sure the case has a 120mm fan for BOTH intake and exhaust
I didn't include drives because selecting those should be a) obvious and b) dependant on how you like your drives configured.
