I just remembered another one! It is possible to torture mobile (cell) phones (yes that's right the phone, not the user). PS This may be illegal in some countries. Here's how:
Get yourself a box with a nice E1 card inside,
Write some dodgy software (at 3 in the morning when you're too tired to think straight) to call a mobile number, hang up if there's no immediate reply (instead of waiting for 30 seconds), and then immediately retry... 
Depending on the switching hardware in between you could get around 50+ attempted calls to the same phone per second - There's some chance the phone circuitry and/or SIM card will quietly die (permanently) under the barrage. Usually your own one, cause who else's phone are going to test with?
Not much good as an information source - but as we all know information obtained with torture is always suspect.
PS: If you have work colleagues who forget that 'mobile' means you should take your phone with you and it always seems to take 5 seconds longer than it should to rip the battery out of the back and toss it into someone else's 'round filing cabinet', then get yourself a 'Universal Mobile Phone Answering Device'. The UMPAD features a large solid paving brick. Repeated application of the UMPAD is all that it takes to answer any mobile phone.

On a serious note, I did "Other" in the poll because I've done some stuff with Firebird SQL[^]. Which is rather quite nice for small projects.
