Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with phpBB.
I have a client who wants for me to look into this product to see if it is suitable for his web site.
If you could relay your experiences with it I would be interested in hearing about them.

I have kind of a pretty nice experience with it because once uploaded it for some client using MySQL and implemented many forums and tested it. It was kind of a reliable thing for me.

Yeah. phpBB is nice one.. but you have to careful in choosing the anti-spam plug-ins... because a lot of spambot knows so well about phpbb. one of my friends run the forum by using phpBB once.. he was not able to flight the spam then he shut down the site finally.
everything has good points and weak points.. so, if you wanna know about the bad point, you may google it. phpbb sucks[^]

Hello, this seemed easy at first but now I think it's more complicated then my knowledge. I am trying to send a form to an email message. I do not want to use CDONTS because i need to include an attachment and I am not able to upload attahcments to my server. Basically there is a form that has some fields prefilled from a database and then I want to send those fields (including the TO, Cc and Bcc) to an outlook email message using mailto. It is a SQL server and I am using FrontPage 2003. here is some javascript I found but does not fill in after the TO (eve though I did test the Cc). Any ideas? Thanks

How to find out the installed version of MS Power Point from registry? I am going to build an app in which i have to check out the installed version of the MS power point onthe client machine. How can I do this?

Look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office and you will see keys something like 10.0, 11.0, etc., along with possibly some others, depending on the Office bundled products you have installed like MS Project, etc.
Enumerate the keys and find the version of office that is installed.
Note - this is not 100% foolproof because there can be more than one Office release installed on the machine.
In that case you don't know which version the user will be using at the time they are using you're application, but it will work most of the time and you can program for the least common denominator or give them an option if there are more than one version of Office installed.

Hey Friends
I have a setup.exe file which can be downloaded from n number of sites.
Now when i run the setup.exe , i need to take different installation procedure depending on from where it was downloaded.
So is it possible to depict a way by which the setup.exe can know from where it was downloaded?
eg
if setup.exe was downloaded from www.abc.com
setup.exe needs to display a message hello abc.com
i can display a message but do not know from where it was downloaded.
programs accept command line parameters , may be something like this
or may be something on similar lines?

It sounds like you're looking for some type of branded (or co-branded) installer. One option would be to create a different installer for each branding. You would use the same installer project and either include different graphics or other resources based on a parameter read by the installer compiler.

Using the process I described in my other reply, you could automate this as part of your build process.

Once the file is downloaded, it's just a file. There is nothing that tells where the file came from.
If you want any information about where the file came from, you have to include it in the file itself.

I am trying to create a seach engine website such as yahoo.com or google.com , what kind of web applications do i have to be familiar with? what type of database? server application etc. etc. i am very positive about my project if i am successful puting a group togther. pls i need some guidance what types of web applications I must be familiar with to make it a decent search engine. - what kind of professional or people be able to accomplish this or myself, thank you

Hello! Brace yourself to build a crawler from scratch. you feed the crawler with parameters [search parameters]and it does the rest.For you to dothis you will need to program in Perl, Python and know lots of PHP and MySQL. The core of the search is the crawler; make a good one! All the best.

I have a web site based that I redirect subdomins to user files with this code:

Response.Redirect("1/traci/0/default.html")

If somone types in chris.mydomain.com it get redirected to an html page.
I would like to change this over to looking up in a database to get the "username" and the redirect string. But I worry it will take more time then parsing a file.
This file contains about 100 people with redirect statements in them.
Any suggestions?
