Hi,
I have a doubt regarding order of exectuion of mark and compact algorithms in Garbage collection process,
which one will invoke first mark or compact, does compact algorithm execute firstly whenever all the roots were collected?

Hi,
a standard GC algorithm is first looking for live objects ("mark"), then either:
- delete the unmarked objects;
- or compact the marked ones, ignoring the unmarked objects.
In .NET compaction is used (except for the "Huge Object Heap").

I'm trying to catch the mouse down and up event and add them to a button control.
I'm planing to use IMessageFilter to add the missing events.
Now to my problem, It seems like application.addfilter don't exist's in cf...
Do anyone have a clue on how to catch mouse events in cf??
Or perhaps i'm looking in the wrong direction? Is there a better way to do this??

I'm looking for a utility that can tell me whether a .NET assembly project has been compiled using x86, x64 or "AnyCPU" (which determines the platform to use at runtime).
If dumpbin.exe displays this information, I'm not seeing it...
As for filever.exe (KB913111[^]), it's generating puzzling results--I'm seeing "W32i", which apparently means the EXE in question is x86 (I know I've compiled that EXE using "AnyCPU"). To make matters worse, according to the KB article, the 32-bit version of filever supposedly can return different output than the 64-bit version. So much for keeping things straightforward...
I know I can tell with Task Manager when the app is running ("xxx.exe" vs "xxx.exe *32"), and Process Explorer can also show it in one of its Properties window, but in this particular case, the app only runs for a few milliseconds, so I don't even have time to see it listed...

Hi, I'm working on a trusted intranet written in ASP.NET, and I need to make a thin client interact with the client computer (mostly to browse, upload and delete local files)
My first attempt was to found two ActiveX providing these functionnalities (one to browse and delete files, other to upload local files) but none of these are covering all our needs.
Then I had a look to the very promising Silverlight 2.0 but it works in a sand-box and the security cannot by downgraded (although I ay use JavaScript to delete files, after being choosed with a Silverlight user interface ?)
So my question is : is it posible to write graphical .NET ActiveX controls to achieve our needs ? I've done C++ during several years but I'm now closest to .NET

.NET and ActiveX are completely different component/application architectures. .NET cannot create ActiveX controls, however .NET can use ActiveX controls through reflection(?, could have the principle name incorrect). As far as I am aware, ActiveX controls cannot target .NET.
For graphical controls in .NET, you want to create a usercontrol.

Can I use the Membership and Roles classes also in a WinForm application or only in ASP.NET webApps?
I need this in a WinForm App for user authentication on a mysql database, and so i want to implement my own MembershipProiver and RolesProvider, but I don't now, if this would work.

Yes, you can. Microsoft Enterprise Library uses it in windows forms based applications.

No, you don't have to download it, I just provided an example. In order to use asp.net membership and roles is winforms these are the necessary steps:
1. Add a reference to System.Web.dll.
2. Create a database using aspnet_regsql.exe or any other way.
3. Add an app.config application configuration file.
4. Add a connection string to your app.config file that points to the membership database.
5. Add a <system.web> configuration section to your app.config file.
6. Configure the <membership> section within <system.web> in your app.config file.
After that you can run the application, and access the database through the membership API classes.

How do i redirect a page which is other than default page on session expire through form authentication?

You can do one thing
At the place of Default.aspx you can put the SessionEx.aspx and from this page you can provide the link for login page to login again.

but as default page is not authenticated, form authentication stops me to redirect to any other page than page specified in defaultUrl in form tag

Then I think you can make your custom Exception event handler which redirects to SessionEx.aspx on session expire

Hi all,
I have created a dynamic grid view 1 and populated with a table with
autoselectoption=true;
I have created a second gridview 2 and the source of the grid view 2must be the selected record in the gridview 1
I feel datakey name will be more appropriate in this occasion rather than catching the row index selected in gridview 1.
Please tell me ,is there any way I can assign the datakey name for gridview 1 manually.(both for static and dynamic table)

I'm using Nhibernate 2.0 and I get a "collection was modified enumeration operation might not execute" exception when NHibernate is in debug mode.
Here is the context (parent / childs relations with lazy loading) :
HelpCategory

-------- HelpItemLocalized (items's localized texts)
I already spent hours and hours to found a solution by myself and with Google but I'm still stuck... and it's really gonna make me crazy 
I finally downloaded then debugged NHibernate's source, the exception is thrown "from" the NHibernate.Impl.Printer class whose goal is (stop me if I'm wrong) to show proxied entities in logs (when the NHibernate transaction is commited)
All right, but when I modify and save a HelpCategory entity :
1) the childs HelpItem are proxied but not the HelpItemLocalized before entering the do ... while loop
2) the log.Debug(ToString(enumerator.Current, entityMode)) call load all fields of proxied entities => this behaviour make HelpItemLocalized entities to get proxied IN the loop ! => the collection is changed and throw the exception
Does anyone can tell me if I'm wrong (I use <bag> and <many-to-one> to make the relations) or if it's an NHibernate bug ?

Hey guys,
I have an application which has hundreds of succesfull downloads a month using the ClickOnce technology.
I received an angry mail from a user who is unable to download the application.
I have copied the message he recieves at the bottom of this post. I don't understand why the download paths are all messed up during his download. Instead of searching for the files on our website the installation seems to be looking for the files locally.... Why is that? I repeat we have hundreds of users that are downloading with no problem. I started to think that maybe this was a competitor that was just trying to drive me insane!!!
