Not necessarily. You may find, for instance, the letters are all uppercase (or all lower) with no double letter digraphs and that there is one letter of the alphabet missing (eg Q or Z) which could suggest the Playfair cipher.
And the playfair cipher was far from useless

Before the advent of the modern computer that almost certainly would have been true with a long enough key, I doubt it is now though. With a short key I have seen puzzle freaks break it with just pencil and paper.
Admittedly modern Block Ciphers use similar techniques but again require computing power to even encrypt a message let alone break one.

Yes, I noticed some assembly solutions, and several unfamiliar programming languages. So far I did everything using C#.
Long time ago, when processing power was much lower, I did several things in assembly too. Not any more, unless I need vector processing (SIMD, MMX, SSE and the like).

I've search google and can't find any realy good solutions to this and was wondering if anybody knew of any examples of algorithms that can look at a page and extract product information and pricing like some of the shopping sites do. I know this is possible because they do it, but I just can't find alot of information about the algorithms.

This is not for a class. I already hold 2 degrees in computer science. Just wondering if there are any sort of exisiting algorithms out there for doing this sort of thing. It is for a job.

Well, I've never seen a forum less helpful than this one. Why does everyone think that I'm trying to have homework done? That would be stupid. When I went to college I paid too much to not have the professors help with any questions I may have with homework. Why would someone come here to have homework done?

What I was wanting was some sort of algorithm for pattern matching and finding these prices in a web page. Crawling a page is easy.

That what you want to college for. Try to design the algorithm your self. Show that you have tried something your self than you might get some help.

I didn't want to reinvent the wheel. I was just checking to see if there was anything out there that I could start with. I do have things in mind of how to do it, but if there's something already out there, why not use it? Would you write a linked list implementation when there's already one out there in the STL?

Since we get so many people coming in here and essentially wanting us to do their homework for them, we tend to be skeptical. You were lucky enough to make your first post on the site with a question that sounded a lot like homework. It's usually the first post of the homework seekers.

Hi,
I don't know whether this has a specific name, it is a character-oriented cypher, it is cumulative (each char depends on all previous ones), and it is symmetric (decrypt and encrypt use the same code); furthermore it is simple and weak.
