I am currently in the process of designing and coding an application for an article to be submitted to Codeproject for publication. What I am wondering is; how do I maintain the copyright to the program and its source code? I am more than willing for other people to use the source code to enhance their own projects or make derivative works; that's why I will be submitting the article to codeproject. What does my program/source code need to contain to prove I own the copyright? Also, do I need to include a license agreement (I was thinking of using the COMMON DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION LICENSE (CDDL) Version 1.0) with the source/program?

Hi Sean, thanks for the reply. I'm still no clearer though. Neither license stipulates HOW the license is 'added' to the source code and the executable. Is it just a matter of including it as a text file with the source/binary package or should my program be able to display the license on demand say through a button 'View License'? My other point was, how do I ensure that the original source code is attributable and copyrighted to myself? Is it simply a case of adding a notice within the source saying 'This code is copyright to John Doe' Is that enough?
As you can guess, i've never published any programs before. Written many, published none!

Unless you're using GPL, I believe all the licenses have a statement that covers what "source code" is and how it is to be used, which is mirrored in the statement at the end of each article.
If you want to use GPL, you can how to add to your code here: http://www.codeproject.com/info/Licenses.aspx[^]
But for CPOL, for example, your code itself does not need to be tagged with anything. The bottom of each article is tagged with this line: "This article, along with any associated source code and files, is licensed under _______ "

Once downloaded, the link between code and article isn't obvious anymore, so IMO it makes sense to include something in the source files, maybe a "CPOL applies" sentence with a hyperlink to the CPOL page (assuming that link NEVER will change). I would suggest you suggest people to do that...
BTW: There recently has been a suggestion along these lines: CodeProject might consider automatically adding a file to every ZIP that is uploaded, containing some general information about CP, as well as the link to the article the files belong to; I would not like CP changing all the files inside the ZIP!

I only read code that is properly formatted, adding PRE tags is the easiest way to obtain that. [The QA section does it automatically now, I hope we soon get it on regular forums as well]

She did a very poor job. Replacing words like "unless" by "if", which negates the meaning of the whole sentence.

Find one article by him and click on the hyperlink of his name. This takes you to his profile, which contains a list of all of his articles.

Hi I'm a regular viewer and now became a article writer (only 2 aricles although  ), but I'm facing a great problem while posting any article with the editor provided inside the Article Posting Wizard. I also downloaded the template..but it also seems that I need to use some HTML editor and need to have a bit good knowledge of HTML. Isn't it possible to post the article by using Microsoft Office or something easy to use...and post the article to codeproject?

Now that your article has been edited by our editors, the only way to update it is to submit the updated source code and HTML to us. You can use the “Get Article’s HTML” from the link in the upper right hand corner of your article, and send both updated HTML and zipped sourced code to us at either my email address, or submit@codeproject.com.

I have just written an article and submitted it using the wizard. All looks ok except I dont see my images embedded into the article only the html img link info.
I copied and pasted the links as provideddirectly in the wizard.

Go to the articles and take a look at all the subjects covered. If you see that there is a gap on a subject that you are an expert on then write about that. If you see an article on a subject and you think you could do better, then try that also. Nobody here can predict what is the best subject for you to write about.

How to get the apporval for the submitted article. It is showing this is an unfinished article.

You need to edit it, and look for a checkbox which says 'Work in Progress - do not make public' and uncheck it.

in the unapproved but submitted table list.
