Its not the contacting them anonymously thats the problem. Its contacting them privately without revealing your e-mail address that makes people reluctant to use this. I don't like to do it as I use my work e-mail, so I dont want to reveal where I work to people. Another reason is people might not want to reveal their real name.
If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Sounds like you have been using FB recently

Indeed, Facebook's private message feature does not reveal my email address. It is better at saving face.

Agreed. You are correct. It doesn't block your e-mail address to the other party.

Please delete this[^] blatantly, irredeemably racist crap.
And please give serious thought to banning the little a**hole.

Ok, thanks. I missed the post.

You can see a post with the offending words changed in the backroom.
It's nothing special really.
|
|
|
|
|
Ok. Could have done that earlier then I guess?
But I am surprised if a back room post got deleted because you used some slur words. I thought the back room permitted vulgar language as long as the post did not directly hint at anything illegal or prosecutable.

I thought so too. But apparently not. Some clarification would be nice..
|

The problem with deleting your post because you used a slur word is that people may now expect several other posts to be deleted too. It was to avoid this situation that the back room was created. So I am quite confused here!
I am not condoning your language, but I don't think that the back room should be moderated merely because someone used politically incorrect language.

I can't speak for the moderators/hamsters, but I would think there are degrees of gray involved. This crossed the line. I can't imagine anyone would be happy (anyone with any sense, that is) hosting this sort of trash on their site. Racist rants are indefensible.

You just read it wrong then. It wasn't a racist rant.

If the average reader is offended or considers a post offensive and racist then saying "you read it wrong" is a moot point. This is a site for software developers to share code. What on Earth is something that even comes close to the line of racism doing on our site?
I didn't see the post but I back Sean 100%. We don't ask much, but we do ask for a little class.

*sigh* admined.
Could you make the rules of the backroom a bit clearer then?

In that case I vote for the Back Room (and possibly the SoapBox) to be removed forthwith. As I stated in the thread that caused all the fuss, there has been far worse than this in the Back Room in the past which has not been moderated out. I don't in any way support the views of the people in question but you either allow all or none.
Just say 'NO' to evaluated arguments for diadic functions! Ash
