There are no plans to implement it because it goes against one of the fundamental ideas of this site and that is the sharing of knowledge. Although, by answering a question you appear to be only helping the asker at the time, the fact the exchange is public allows others to gain knowledge simultaneously and in the future. Private messaging serves no purpose.

Yeah it does, I think it allows tactful corrections. Like, "your fly is down" vs "Everyone look, his fly is down."

Don't be so sure. We already have private messing, except that it reveals your email. So all Chris needs to do is to add an option where the from-address will be something@codeproject. The guy who gets the message can reply back using the same system.

We've all seen how SO has built such a popular site based on a rep-score/status system (same goes for sites like digg and reddit). I am sure Chris has been following their success too, so it's not coincidental that CP is moving heavily towards status-badges and rep-points and all the rest of that stuff.
