Yeah it’s quite distressing that people who can write a few lines of code think that they are somehow superior to non-programmers when they themselves are mostly clueless as to anything non-programming related. Maybe it’s a sub-conscious awareness of these shortcomings that makes them behave like assholes when they get that once-in-a-while sporadic opportunity to do so.

Inserting a space between two letters doesn't trigger a preview update.
Whitespace is only safely ignorable at the ends of lines, not in the middle.

The preview is never updated for any white space.

I know, and that's the problem. When I type "Thisis a bug" and then go back to insert the missing space the preview doesn't update. It should only ignore whitespace at the end of lines, and the start of lines outside of pre blocks.

why should spaces be treated differently, a change is a change? and when applied I would assume it got applied for a reason.

white space at the end of a line, or the start of a line outside of a pre-block has no impact on the output. Ignoring it is a simple optimization to reduce server load and network traffic. The problem is that as currently implemented the code is:
if (!IsWhiteSpace(newChar))
{
UpdatePreview();
}
When it should be:
if (!IsWhiteSpace(newChar) ||
(IsWhiteSpace(newChar) && WhiteSpaceMattersHere(cursorPosition)))
{
UpdatePreview();
}
Oh and I spotted another minor bug. When wrapping text in a pre block the update isn't triggered when the pre tags are inserted, but when I click in the edit control returning its focus. (FF5.0)

I just noticed carriage returns (newlines) are also not triggering a preview update; splitting an existing paragraph into two paragraphs by hitting ENTER twice does not update the preview. This isn't good.

I've fixed this, and the issue with the preview not updating when you apply a codeblock has been lessened, in that it will update within a fraction of a second via the timer. The format buttons aren't (yet) plugged directly into the message preview system (which would mean instant update) and the onchange event for a textbox only fires when focus changes.
Will try and get to the signature update today.

Should these really be classified as debater points? While generally not language specific most are general programming discussions as opposed to the standard lounge drivel.

When in doubt defaulting to debator seems to be the general approach. And I agree with it. Better to give debator points for a programming discussion than to give authority points for a discussion on bra-sizes (yes, we've had that twice in the poll-forums in the past).
