I'm working on a project using Jscript on Microsoft IIS.
I already wrote a bunch of emulation functions to make the framework more compatible with modern ECMAscript implementations such as Mozilla´s.
One more thing I found missing in IIS/WSH/Jscript is the name property on a Function object. In a JavaScript running in a browser, you could write:
function MyFunc() { }
alert(MyFunc.name);
Currently I've built a Function.nameOf() helper function which extracts the function´s name from toSource()/toString() by the use of a simple RegEx.
Has anyone some idea how I could build a drop-in function so I gain full code compatibility and reusability between browser and server?
I thought of something like
Function.prototype.name={};
Function.prototype.name.valueOf=function() { }
so ".name" would appear like a property, and the valueOf()-function would be called implicitly as kind of a "get"-accessor.
But no matter how hard I try, i can´t figure out how I can determine from within the valueOf() method, which function was originally called and which´s name is to be extracted.
Any hints or solutions greatly appreciated!

are you interested in data on your own site (content from the same single page that also runs the script) or do you want to fetch from a remote site?
for the former, document.getElementById and element.innerHTML are your friends. for the latter, try asking Wikipedia and Google for AJAX and the XMLHttpRequest object.

I'm writing a simple piece of code to display a popup when somebody leaves my wordpress blog. It will simply ask if they wanted to register for my next open house before they leave the website.
Here's what I have...

That displays everytime a page is unloaded though... I want to simply check what the next page is and if it doesn't contain my domain then trigger the popup.
I found this code but it won't work because it shows the previous pages address when I need to see the next page to loads address.

Does anybody know how I can grab the next page that will be loaded from the browser?

Sorry, but I can only say I hope you will not get a solution ever, as my next page is none of your business!
Besides, what if the visitor closes his browser or his browser tab? When he does, there isn't a next page.
A better approach could be this: have each of your pages ask the question under some conditions, such as:
1. ask it only once
2. ask it only when the visitor has been on your site for more than 2 minutes
3. ask it only when the visitor has been on the same page for more than 20 seconds

I'm fairly novice when it comes to Javascript. What variables store these conditions / time on page? I understand I'll probably write a cookie so it only alerts the visitor once.
I do like the idea of prompting them after they've been on the site for a certain period of time.
fyi. My goal is simple. People may have not noticed the information they need so I want to indicate such. I just want to provide a little alert box or something to redirect them if they choose.

None.
You have to code that yourself. You could start a timer when the page loads, show your message when the timer expires, or pass on the time when you leave to the next page of your site, so it can load its timer with the value carried over (through cookie or URL). And I haven't actually done any of this, as I don't like such reminders at all...

FYI, I may have some bad news:
onload and onbeforeunload events aren't supported by Chrome, so it would be unwise to use it imo.

Hi there.. I wrote a nodejs article and posted for moderation.
It is neither showing any change in its moderation status from pending.. nor is it showing up on the 'articles pending review' section.
Did I have to do something which I missed because of which it is pending.. or am I missing to understand any reviewer comment ?

I have define a variable in window A.
I set it to parent.variable=xxxx
Now I open a new tab (window B).
Can I access or take the parent.variable from window A in window B ?

Only if window B can refer to something in A's tree. I think when A spawns B it gets a reference to the new window, so A can add a reference to its own window into B's (i.e. new_window.referenceToA = window), and then code in B can use window.referenceToA.xxx.

If you opened the new window from the original window, you should be able to access the
window.opener property in the DOM of the new window. This property gives you access to the DOM of the original window.

You might want to use a 'hidden' input on your form. When the page opens in the iframe you can grab the value from the Request object and use it in your iframe. I see the requirement not to use cookies.

Hey,
Any ideas why this won't work? i want the text and image to go back to the original position then repeat the previous animation, so the text goes out to the right then resets, and comes back in from the left, and the same for the image ..
