JavaAccessBridge setTextContents returns false

From a C# program, I can read the text in Java textboxes (JTextArea, JTextField, TextArea). These texts are editable. When I call the setTextContents function, it always returns false; no error happens, Marshal.GetLastWin32Error() returns 0. How can the problem be resolved?

Some code snippets used on my Win7 64bit machine (my application is running as a 32bit application, and the Java program was started with the 32bit java.exe):

It does not matter which CharSet I use (tested all 4 available types).

The context in which the function is called is:

AccessibleTextItemsInfo textInfo = GetAccessibleTextItemsInfo(vmID, textbox, 0);
MessageBox.Show("Der gegenwärtige Text lautet:\r\n" + textInfo.sentence);
string replacement = "Laber laber blah blah!";

What do you not understand? My computer has an operating system: Windows 7 64bit (it has more than 4 GB RAM, hence I won't use 32bit Win7). The program loads 32 bit ThirdParty libraries, hence I must create a 32bit application. And guess what the real users will do...

That has nothing to do with either your original question or Torsten's response. You are asking about accessing text boxes in a Java application from a C# program, which sounds like a recipe for a major disaster. What exactly are you trying to achieve here?

Simple: speech recognition into Java swing text components. Of course, not the simple approach of emulating a keyboard, but advanced things like changing one word in a sentence.
Of course, I know that it is prone to disaster. It is not my decision to try that.

So the speech recognition is done by a C# program, the GUI is made in Java?
I'm still not clear how you get the connection between these 2 parts.

I would use a local RMI connection, which gives a smoother connection between these 2 worlds.

Note: for Java it is not relevant if your code is running on 64bit or 32 bit. the JAR is always the same and so should be all third party libs. Only some Runtime related JARs might be different and be added during your deployment build.

- Speech recognition is done by a ThirdParty OutProc COM server.
- Our application is in C#.
- Another application (not developed by us) is written in Java.
The end user wants to take our application as an "assistive technology".

The JavaAccessBridge (a product of Sun/Oracle: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/accessbridge/2.0.2/title.htm[^]) is a terrific product. When you do the DllImport, you have to differentiate whether you are running on a 32 bit OS, or a 32bit application on a 64 bit OS or a 64bit application on a 64bit OS - yes, three cases! While "AccessibleContext" is an IntPtr on 32 bit OS, it is an Int64 on 64bit OS regardless of a 32bit or 64bit application. Yeah, also that's a mess. We will need to versions - one for 64bit OS and one for 32bit OS - despite the fact that our program will always be a 32bit program.

Three specific items.

Now explain in DETAIL the relationship between the three.

For EXAMPLE...

The C# program uses interop to talk to the COM server. And now the Java app must call the COM server too. And the C# and Java apps do not communicate/interact at all.

Presumably NOT because you think this is necessarily going to work with a java component.

So your FIRST steps.
1. Learn C/C++
2. Learn how to create a windows window
3. Write C/C++ code to call SetActiveWindow()
4. Test it.

NONE of the above has anything to do with java.
DO NOT write java until you have the above working.

Hey, the code is above. I wager this is some kind of cast or data type problem. I tried aScanner_input.next() and aScanner_input.nextLine(). With both it doesnt' recognize Y as Y and s as s!?!! i.e. none of the if-blocks can get accessed regardless of input.

I can get scanner to work with other data types like int (and nextInt()).

OMG I realized this is the exact same problem I had before when posting on my first post. I need to use a String.equals() comparison for strings in the if-conditional. I will try that. (thanks...to my recollection of solving that problem the first time! lol xD).
