My main issue with logging to a database is: how do you log that you can't access the database? I prefer the simplest logging mechanism to avoid as much trouble as possible.

Logs in a file also retain their order even if two entries have the same timestamp.

I write logs as XML, which can easily be imported to a database and analyzed if necessary -- so far it hasn't been.
