There seem to be a lot of bugs with the forums lately.

Then I guess it's FireFox trying to annoy the hell out of me. I am going to try it in IE and Maxthon 3.

This has been around since day 1 on IE8.  IE9 seems to do it right.

The forum layout is always coming up as "expand posts & replies", even though I've changed it to "Normal" and clicked Update.
I'm reaching the article via a search from the CP home page.
If it makes a difference, I'm using IE8.
This is a very recent (within the last 24 hours) change.

I believe the problem is with the Search function as the same behaviour is exhibited when you try to read a post in the lounge via a search. I did post here but not seen a reply.

I have seen it for about 5+ days now, and I get it even if I get to the article by clicking on a link on the homepage or in the section the article exists in. It is getting rather annoying.
EDIT: I am using FireFox 14 on Windows 7. Haven't tried other browsers.

This is a change we introduced a while back: when you click a search result that links to a page with forums, the messages are expanded automatically in order to make it easier to find the info you're looking for. Those coming from Google, for instance, may get a hit due to a forum message, but with the messages initially collapses they won't have much luck finding the text related to their search if that text is in the messages.

The only problem with that is that EVERY message in the view is expanded, which makes it darn annoying to find what I'm looking for. It causes information overload. If it were to only open the particular message I'm interested in, then that'd be useful.

If Google would tell us what message the search term was found in that would allow us to do that.
They don't.

I don't see what Google has to do with using Code Project's search feature. If I use the textbox at the top-right of the page to search for messages that contain "dragons", the second item listed has this link: http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/4345375/Re-Exceptionally-explained-books.aspx. That appears to be a link to a particular message. Yet, when I click it, every message on that page is expanded.
Are you not able to differentiate between a search initiated from Google and a search initiated from Code Project?

Ah. I guess it's been a while since I used the search. It just 'felt' like my preference for the layout wasn't being saved. Off the top of my head I can't think of a better way to do this and still meet the concern that motivated the change.

Could you allow us to change the view back to normal if we want to then?
Currently if you try to set it back to normal, it returns to the first page of the Forum you are in.

And you forgot to turn off your CAPS lock key.
I've just sent your password reminder through the "send password" page with the CAPTCHA and it worked fine for me. Are you sure you entered the code in the right box, did you retry with a different code if the first failed?

Hi,
Most of the questions require screenshot to show others what exactly we are facing.
Currently we don't have this feature.
Can we implement this in "As a question" section ?
This will be very useful.

You can post a screen shot as a link - take the picture, put it on something like tinypic.com[^] [other image hosting sites are available] and link to it in your post. Simples.

In that case how can you restrict a user from not attaching an inappropriate image to the link provided to access that image.

It is slightly different. The clicking of a link is an intentional action to leave the site and there is no guarantee, implied or explicit, that the external content is appropriate. The content of this site is, as much as possible, kept 'Kid Sister Safe'. Chris et al are responsible for maintaining the high standards of Codeproject and allowing embedded images in un-moderated content is seen as not conducive to the harmony of the site.
