Whilst I understand the reasons behind the voting changes in the lounge, I feel there is a 'Middle Way' to express approval/disapproval in the Lounge.
Have a simple  or  for the posts.
These would not be linked to the reputation metric for the user, but would, in essence, show the popularity/derision for a post.
It would be a community expression to reward the helpful/humorous/original thinking/lateral logic/just plain genius etc that we all enjoy, and would mete out opprobrium to the weak/poor taste/badly conceived/arrogant/obnoxious/offensive posts that we, as the regular visitors, could offer the reward/punishment we see fit.
It would only be measured against the individual post, so it would help to define the kind of inputs to the forum that we enjoy, and would help make a declaration of what was not seen as appropriate.
There have been many posts of late where I have wanted to upvote because of various reasons and feel cheated somewhat that I am unable to reward in some way the perceived cleverness of the OP.
what do others think?

It's not the score, it's color of the good posts that makes it easy to find and see.

Well the colour gives an indication of its score, so it's the same issue.

But, with a small difference - Because of color, I don't have to open each and every message to see if it is marked good by number of people.

I enjoy the speculation but the reason the voting was disabled was purely a load issue. I've not had a chance (thanks to the spammers) to make the fix that will re-enable voting.
However, it has been an interesting exercise. When re-instated it will be different than it was.

I can reinstate ratings. I can make them slightly different though. There will still be ratings.
Or if you want a more precise statement, then: I can just turn 'em back on, more or less, after mucking around with 'em for a bit.

regardless of the number of times I attempt to confirm my email address hsmyers@gmail.com nothing happens. no email shows up---nothing---nada---zilch. i really dislike the various messages you display for those in this situation. please fix...

Maybe it is not CP at fault.
Maybe your/your isp's spam filters are blocking the email(s) from CP?
If you have notifications turned on, do you get any messages from CP? e.g. notification that I have replied to your message.

Dave is there a way to do the equivalent of a trace route on the confirmation email. I use gmail and can view my spam folder as well as the new message folder and as far as I can tell I'm not getting the confirmation request. In lieu of that perhaps you could just manually throw the switch that says 'email confirmed'?

Does seem odd that you are not getting anything through.
Start another message in Sugs and Bugs and explain this again. Chris might request you email him directly so he can respond directly to verify your email address.

There are around 50 spam messages posted by a member.

The member has been nuked. Can any of the admins please delete these messages as it could take a while for these messages to be removed by reporting it.
Also it would better if there would be a option to delete/edit a message from a forum just like we can delete/Edit questions or answers in the QA forum.

It might be better if more people had permission to edit/delete messages with increasing spam in the site. For instance MVPs cannot edit/delete posts, if they had the ability to alter the posts, the spam messages may be removed a little more quickly.
