If you have a shop you should be able do receive money in several ways.
If customers shouldn't have impediments if they want to buy something from you, the paying process might be the last thing you want a customer to complain about.

The same applies to browsers.
If you manage to get users to your page, the last thing you want is see them leaving because you don't support their browser.
A rock solid design and cross browser support is a plus point on the trust of the user, even if they're not aware of it. If the page brakes it's a lot of minus point in the customer trust and they are aware of it!

Of course this changes if you're developing for a restricted environment.
If you're sure of which set of browsers will be used then it's OK, otherwise, or in doubt, I prefer to design ground up with broad browser compliance in mind.

Always remember that customer trust is vital for any business, and nowadays (and for a long time already) having a good website plays a big role on this matter.
