Sadly no they're not. They fall down an educational hole being too technical and low level to teach in our dumbed down schools and too simple and 'obvious' to make it into a degree course.
As they don't have explicit syntactic representation in any of the major languages these things seldom make it into any language based book except perhaps the appendices of the occasional tome on 'C'.
For the less mathematical like myself they may not be difficult to understand but I couldn't come up with any of them given a day to think about it so thank you very much for the links. I used to have the Stanford link but lost it somewhere.

If we go way back to the 18th century, we find ourselves in the heyday of mechanics. Indeed, many physicists believed that the world was essentially mechanical and deterministic. More importantly, everyone was thinking about mechanical solutions to problems. In that milieu, it seemed natural to think of computing in terms of gears, chains, sprockets, and cams. The result was mechanical computers. Once the electronics revolution hit full stride, these machines ended up being remembered as the pinnacle of a bygone age. Now, in a blast from the past, a pair of researchers from New Zealand have demonstrated an updated version of the mechanical computer: an artificial, muscle-based computer. It's slow and bulky, and it can't do a lot, but the researchers argue that it has great potential for robotics. Such a computer is very simple, but programming it is very, very complicated.

After Google revealed that it's forking WebKit with the launch of the Blink browser rendering engine for Chrome, WebKit developers began discussing the removal of Chrome-specific code from the project. It was more severe of a loss than the cancelled projects, the rumored 150 job losses, or the between-the-lines message that even a company as diverse and global as Disney puts little value in game development. That's where TypeScript, an open source language created by Microsoft, comes in. TypeScript is a superset of JavaScript that presents class structure and type safety for coders, helping them better manage and maintain their code. Projects written in TypeScript compile to valid, standards-compliant JavaScript code.

The security strength (or eventual weakness) of Microsoft's app model lies in its sandbox.... However, no matter how hard Microsoft has pushed the strength of its sandbox environment, no system is 100 percent protected from attacks. With higher adoption rate of Microsoft's newest OS, we'll start to see hackers turning their skills towards breaking it. And once that happens, I think we will get our first look at how secure Windows Store apps really are. I'm skeptical of the inherent security of a security model that requires constant updates.

The classic cop out to producing documentation is not having the time. Of course, it's entirely valid and possible that more urgent things take priority over documentation. However, developers who use time as an excuse should be aware that time they do not pour into documentation is time their users instead have to invest in it.... Frankly, not having documentation is a net loss in terms of time for everyone involved. Plus: A few pointers to writing minimal but helpful docs

Many programmers I've worked with are terrible writers
Without exception, managers do not support taking the time to write and maintain documentation (yet they love to create useless PowerPoint presentations and distribute them on Sharepoint). And don't even get me started on getting management support for things like unit testing.
So, it's a great article, and we all know it's true. But we've known it's true for 30 years. The days of the "engineering notebook" are sadly long gone.

Probably old news, but I just saw Glimpse[^] for the first time. It's "Firebug for your Web Server" for ASP.NET MVC. It gives insight into the routes, methods run, trace information and more. Well worth the price of admission (it's free).

I’m reading through the latest digital edition of Game Developer Magazine which contains their annual survey. The salary numbers overall weren’t concerning to me, until I scrolled down and saw the differences between the male and female survey respondents. The next time someone tells me that men and women get paid equally for their talents in the game industry, I wanted something to link to them. With numbers like these — why would women want to work in games?

Obviously you can't base everything off of just summarized numbers. They don't tell the whole story. It could be that a high percentage of the women are new to the industry and therefore have lower salaries bringing the average down.
I know a lot of women are the ones who get the kid from day care when they are sick and in my experience women who have kids miss a lot more work then the men. If they are getting more time off they should not be paid the same.
Anyway, don't judge a stat by it's numbers.

Do you really think child sick leave cause underpaid wages for women? That must be one of the most stupid comments lately. Have it ever occurred to you there may be structural problems for women in such an organisation? If that would have been presented to me at my salary meeting i would have quit, literally.And I have a penis.
I have female collegues and the say they are underpaid. I believe them. On the other hand this is common in the gamedev industry, especially among younger people across both sexes but I have no doubt that not bragging about your skills all the time puts you straight on the path to underpaid code monkey. This is sad and is something I try to fight everywhere I work. Too often I see people get squashed wage-wise because they werent aggressive enough towards peers. Some bosses see this as a weakness and subsequently give lower salary because they want people to deliver, work all night and be thankful for whatever crumbs was left by the ceo.
You can say, "maybe she isnt skilled enough". And there you have it. Someone thinks just that, based on a vim, and then she gets less payed. Not because shes not good, but because shes not participating in the hierarchy of men.
We should see women as a true valuable resource in the game dev industry and give them higher salaries than normal because that will generate more value later on from them and from male peers.
I toyally disagree children are the cause of wage discrimination, or that any other gender specific feature or behaviour can cause that. I believe the root cause lie elsewhere.
