I beginning how to use url rewriting. Now I have this rule in apache (an example) which works fine:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^register$ register.php

I have also learnt that in order for the rule to accept an ending slash (localhost/register/), the rule should be changed to:

 RewriteRule ^register/?$ register.php

<p></p>


This also loads the register.php page when it is accessed through (http://localhost/register) but when I add the trailing slash (http://localhost/register/), my stylesheet which is in a different directory is not applied in formatting the page. The page thus loads without any formatting.

How can I ensure that the stylesheet is used in formatting the page when there is a forward slash at the end? It is possible for a user to add the slash at the end and so I would like to know a solution. Thanks.

Well I realised that even when I type the actual page in the address bar with the ending forward slash, the page loads without formatting. This means the problem is not with the RewriteRule.

Is there a way to solve this problem when the requested page ends in a slash (http://localhost/register.php/) so that the stylesheet is applied? Thanks.

You are probably using a relative path to refer to your style sheet. When your URL is register.php, that is considered a page. When your URL is register.php/, that is considered a directory one level deeper than the directory of register.php. If you use an absolute path, you don't need to worry about that. Example:

/css/main.css

Alternatively, you can create a redirect rule (not the same as a rewrite) for when there is a trailing slash and have it redirect to the page without the trailing slash, avoiding the issue entirely.

If it is becuase of poor SEO design, then I don't know, but Google DOES blacklist websites (websites with spam, websites with malware ...)

Hi,
I have a Sql Server 2008 database on a website and need to develop a web service using JSON to call from remote devices for running stored procedures. Does anyone have any sample code of a web service running a sp with input parameters, producing a JSON result set that I can have a look at?

Several things have to come together to give JSON back to the browser... your service has to be decorated like this...

Then, you have to call it with the right content type, like this... (part of a JQuery Ajax call)

The important things there are the contentType, the "post" request type, and the datatype "json" which are all needed to tell the web service that you want JSON back. If all these things are received by the server correctly, it will send back JSON strings.

opacity issue with ie6

} . This is for when loading a popup , disabling the background. but in IE6 all the dropdowns are enabled, What i can do for this

This is a well-known bug in IE6 and earlier. A search for "ie6 select z-index" will give you more information and possible workarounds. If you're using jQuery, you might want to look at the bgiframe plugin[^].

I tried to display using asp:Literal with this code:

Is that inside an <asp:Table> tag? If so, it could be the table which is causing the text to wrap. If not, try removing the <asp:TableCell> tags.

Good day all

my name is abayomi am new to programming and i am saddled with the responsibility of writting and developing a web based virtual classroom that will have a presenter and a participant, a login in screen video communication a chat environment a blackboard.

Kindly assist me on how to get started on this the necessary equipment that i need and which ll be best programming language will be easy for me to use as a beginner.

If you are new to programming then I would suggest the first thing you need to learn is the basics of Web based programs; http://www.asp.net/[^] would be a good place to start.

Use the best guess
