.. sort of. It's more of a what a stupid justice system we have type story.
I bring your attention to paragraph 5[^] of the article where it says he will be jailed for 4 years and banned from driving for 3 years. Now I';ve done the math and that's just stupid.
BTW NNOTD is not copyrighted like CCC and MQOTD, the nature of the beast is that anybody can post these whenever you come acroos a story worthy.

You have to remember that a four-year sentence doesn't mean that he'll be in for four years: he'll get half of that off for good behaviour, and any time spent on remand will be subtracted from it. Then there is the wonderfull "oh the prisons are full, we'll let some out earlier" bonus to consider as well. The ban however will run from the date of sentencing, and will last absolutely three years. So when he gets out, he won't be able to drive legally, and a three year ban will drastically affect his insurance costs (as if anyone from Leigh Park actually bought insurance - or a car - anyway)
Not long enough for either of them though. Should have added another zero...

I know it's a bit of a not knowing all the facts comment but, as an ex-biker, I am of the opinion that it you kill someone while driving and you are shown to have caused the death by driving illegally you should lose your license for life.

Well, even without the numpties, biking is a nonsense itself. Driving faster than 25km/h with only 2mm leather as a protection is a no-go.

On a serious line, no. You cannot 'ban' someone at the first mistake, may it be because they killed someone.
- People killing while driving will be sentenced with a good load of jail, and even if they do only 20% of the sentenced time, nobody likes jail. This is their punishment.
- They will have a hard time passing their license again, believe me. In France, the medics have to give clearance to be allowed to pass it again, and this is rather hard to obtain.
- Banning will cause the people you want to prevent from driving with such a measure to drive without license anyway, and will prevent the few ones who made a terrible mistake once in their life from being allowed to drive gain. So you are basically punishing the wrong ones.

My point was, among others, that dangerous drivers will drive with or without license.
I have also speeded sometimes in the past, maybe 1 out of 1000 times I take my car. If I happen to kill someone on that very day, am I a dangerous driver ? Can you tell me that you
have _never_ driven over the speed limit in your whole biker life ? Not a single time ?

I allegedly did over a ton and a quarter within a few weeks of getting the 600 - I never did it again.
The person killed through dangerous driving does not get a second chance so why should the person responsible get a chance to kill again?

Every driver on the road has a chance to kill someone with their four (or two) wheeled death machine. Why do we allow it at all? Since moving to the USA I have seen more bad driving and near misses than in my entire life prior to this because people here see driving as a right rather than a privilege and the driving test is ridiculously easy to pass.
