Can I retrieve column names using MFC classes

I am developing a MFC-based program (using CRecordset and CDatabase) dealt with MS Access. I want to retrieve the column names of a table. Could I do that without using ODBC APIs?

As far as I know, there is no way to get the column names with CRecordset or CDatabase. You can only use the m_hdbc member to feed it in the SQLGet**** - functions.

You can use member GetODBCFieldInfo of CRecordset:

Sorry,I found that I hadn't expressed myself clearly. What I want to know is all the column names of the table, not only the names in the recordset.

I think you got to do it this way (in pseudocode):

SQLExecDirect( "Select * from <tablename>")
SQLNumResultCols();
for( i < NumResultCols )
{
SQLDescribeCol( i )
}

that should do the trick.

Hi..
I use ASP , ADO to open AccessXP database
my connection string :

strCon="Data Source=" &  Server.MapPath("db.mdb") & <br />
"; Provider=Microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;password=mypass;"

i get the eror :
Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user.

instead of password=mypass it should be:Jet OLEDB:Database Password=mypass;

you will unlock this database .

if it was be created with another user,you will not use it.

I didn't get what you mean
do you mean the using this connection string ,only one user can open the database at the same time ?

Hi,

I need to extract data from a Btrieve database, only problem I get error 51 "Invalid Owner", i.e. the data-files have had the "owner name" property set, so without knowing this I am presently unable to open the data-files. Does anyone know of any utility or method which will enable me to read the "owner name" and thus allow me access?

During inserting records to the database, sometimes a blank record appears in the database.But none of records I insert is blank.

Hi,

I am developping application in C# with MSAccess databases and whenever I create an OLE DB Connection, something fails. When I select the Jet 4.0 Provider, I get a E_FAIL on the Select command in the wizard. When I use a OBDC connector to connect to an existing DSN, I get some sort of error saying that the data isnt compatible. What method should I use to connect a c# app with a MSAccess local db using the wizard in VS.NET or maybe there is a way to do this without using ODBC. Thanks

I need a little help.
What is it about...
I have a project in Visual C++ in which im using ADO. So i import an ado dll like that :

its OK

But i need to use and AdoX
so in one help ( in MSDN ) i saw that code and i used in py project:

hi,
I executed "EXEC sp_fulltext_database 'enable'" in the query analyser of sql 2000.I am getting the following error:
"Full-Text Search is not installed or a full-text component could not be loaded". Can anyone guide me how to fix this problem.how to install this full text component,atleast any site name or the url from where i can download.

Hi I use asp , ado , AccessXP db to make an online registration system.
I created an Insert query in the Access database and call the query like this :

I don't know Access, but it sounds like the user account that the server ASP process runs under does not have write permissions on the .mdb file.

Change, or get the server admin to change, the permissions on the .mdb file to allow write access for the IUSER_* or IWAM_* accounts (I forget which).

Okay.

I wanted to see if MSDE was cool and determined it was.
But I've got vs.net entp ed and figured i didn't need msde anymore.
I went to control panel and removed msde.

NOW, when i run the service manager, it says
"service unavailable" or something like that...

What do i do??? Are my databases toasted now?

If someone can give me a hand, I'd -reallllly- appreciate it..

If you still have the .mdf (and .ldf, not sure if these are important) files, you should be able to reattach them to an existing database instance. Look up the sp_attach_db system stored proc. You could probably do this via Enterprise Manager too.

I'm not sure what the Service Control manager is complaining about. It may be looking for a particular SQL Server instance (machinename\instance).

MSDE is a limited Version of SQL Server and it is actually the same service called MSSQLSERVER

Check in Services Control Panel if there is a MSSQLSERVER service running and if it shows to correct path.

It can be that you will have to reinstall SQL Server

Hi everyone,

I am using the "Microsoft OLEDB provider for Microsoft Jet" through ADO and everything is going fairly well, except for the processing of provider errors....

The problem is that I can detect them ok, but I need to do specific things depending on which error occurs, which is obvious, however I am having a major hard time trying to find out what errors can be thrown by the provider.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of the error codes that can be issued by the above provider, the ones I have found (through trial and error) are:

An attempt to update a field with a zero-length string when the field does NOT support it

Systax error in INSERT INTO statement

The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship.

I get these error codes consistantly, but do they look wrong to anyone ? I am suspicous as when I do a search for any of them on the internet, it comes up blank everytime.

Per MSDN:
For UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements, the return value is the number of rows affected by the command. For all other types of statements, the return value is -1.
