When I think of Olympic Ice Skaters, I think of those woman with stunningly beautiful legs, the breeze of their motion rustling their costumes.
In fact - looking at them watching them skate is the only thing that justifies the whole damn Olympics, which is otherwise a monumental waste.

The skaters (as in woman's singles) offer sensual beauty and grace - and the fact that it's at a thing called "Olympics" is incidental and of no consequence.
The Olympics are merely a showcase of national ego's - as much value as professional athletic events -> none;

I know Win8 is not very popular here, but from the people using it, have you already upgraded to 8.1 ? Is this only like a service pack, or a fresh install ?

Vista was pretty bad...but...it was too security focus, too slow, and far, far too expensive. Win 8 was a back step stepwise away from actual usability which is a much worse crime.
ME was an April Fools joke that got out to the public, and Win 1.0 was just cr@p. Mind you, compared with DOS it...was still cr@p, yes. But better than Win 8!

I still don't get all the hate - all you need do is install a start menu replacement and it all works as expected (better than Win7).

Off the top of my head.
1. Startup time - drastically improved.
2. Memory requirements - improved.
3. File System performance - improved.
You know, the core functions of an O/S. Apart from that, follow the herd and ignore it.

3. You may got a new SSD with it 
It has a too hard Microsoft way or no-way build into it. OS is not only performance but usability and user-friendly. You just got an enlarged phone...
But it's OK with me - I'm on Fedora 5 years already and all my Windows machines are virtual...(including one 8.1)

Have you actually used Windows 8.1 though? From your response it doesn't sound like it!
"No parallel applications" - absolute nonsense. It still runs Win32/64 software exactly as before.
The disk performance is greatly improved - its not an SSD thing. Measured by Cakewalk (who create Audio software - where disk IO is very important).
I turn off my PC between use to conserve power. For a server I'd either run Linux or Windows Server depending on the environment and app requirements.

Yes I'm testing legacy applications on Windows 8.1.
Metro part of Windows 8 are not running in multitasking but using the same model Windows Phone uses...
By the way. It's not only me (and some CP guys) who tells that Windows 8 is no good - see sells...

Again untrue - you can run multiple app's, even side-by-side.
If you don't choose to run Windows 8, that's fine, but its amazing how much FUD there is about it. I mainly just use it as a better Windows 7.
