Social news site Reddit has downgraded the status of its "technology" section after a censorship row. It follows a report by the Daily Dot that revealed headlines posted to the area had been secretly deleted if they featured certain words.

Fascinating perspective. I'm not sure quite how well the declining empire metaphor applies to Microsoft and the tech industry, but the argument he's making is more or less sound.

which link? The article Kent linked appears complete and both articles linked from it (mashable and nplus) appear complete when I scrolled down them to the end. Neither are showing a pay-me moneybeg at the bottom of the text anyway (haven't read them yet).

Really? I get a huge wall of text (33 screen tall page at 1680x1050) and no paywall. I switched browsers and saw the same thing in IE, so it's no my ad blocker munching a half baked overlay paywall.

Can't wait either. I need to do another trial run with flash disabled by default. The last time I did so (2 years ago???) flash based video players were too common to make it a tolerable experience (heavy adblock use already stomped most ads into oblivion so no real win there). As the TNW article reported, it's almost certainly still too early to uninstall flash entirely, or even relegate it to be solely installed within my WTFsite browser (IE, also hosting a java infection); but if it's rare enough to make click to play an acceptable UX, that would be a significant bump in my browser security profile.
