I think it was actually a count of members who were signed in. And since most of us never sign out, it was not considered a very accurate value.

I remember back in the day there was this stupid rumor that if you googled Google you would break Google or the internet lol. 
Was that just here in SA or did anyone else around the world also hear that one ?
