Several years ago I heard about LINQ To SQL. I was in the process of developing an application for a previous employer, and I was only familiar with ADO.NET, basically rolling my own ORM of sorts. I looked into LINQ To SQL because I had heard so much about it. I really thought it was no good, so I rolled my own ORM/DAL with ADO.NET. It wasn't for another year or two that I realized how much I enjoyed LINQ To SQL, and I've used it (and Entity Framework) ever since.

You don't really need a Microwave oven. All you need is a cooker or a vessel which as acts as a container and a electric or gas stove

Not exactly, but it took a while for me to "get" how powerful Linq is, and I think I still have much to understand about it.
Perhaps my lack of background in using some kind of structured query language with a database meant my initial study of Linq was "more of a jump" ?

I feel it is harder for me to write than it should be but it sure is powerful.

Mobile phone.
Initially, I was made to have one - as I was "on call" 24 hours to a client, and it meant they could contact me at any time. Not-quite-a-brick, it was at least pocketable (but pre-digital)
But...it only ever rang when the bosses son wanted to go for a beer, so I warmed to it.
And now I never leave home without it...

Yes. I call it "computers."
My first commercial one was built from a kit, and I had to write the operating system for it to make it do anything. My second was purchased assembled and had an operating system already installed, but I had to write the programs to make it do anything. I had them both for the novelty, and the learning experience to help out at work, but I had no expectation that anyone would actually need or want one at home.

Hi All,
I'm thinking about a contract role at the moment had the interview this morning (it went well) the only thing that bothers me is the fact I was thinking about getting a Mortgage would the fact I am a Contractor be a problem with the lenders in the UK, I will get some proper advise as soon as I am able to, but 'The Lounge' seemed the quickest and easiest way!

Not in the UK, but... when I moved to the U.S. from Canada in 1999, I was taking a contract position. The banks let me get a mortgage based on my job, regardless of type.
