The U.S. has never signed a surrender to another nation, but they have had unsuccessful and/or unprofitable invasions of foreign countries. Canada (as a British colony), Vietnam, and Afghanistan are all great examples of the latter.
In all three cases, the U.S. expected to have more support from the people in the invaded land than they actually did. They are better categorized as political blunders than lost wars.

I don't remember the US surrendering or their capital being taken during the Vietnam conflict? Didn't the US withdraw?
However, during the 1812 war the Brits/Canada burned the White House and the Capitol building among others (in 1814).
Being British by birth and Canadian by choice I'll take the win!
