It's -3F here in Pittsburgh PA although 30 miles north the temp is -12F. I have to go out in this soon which would not be a big deal but I have to walk a 1/2 mile from where I park to my office.

Yeah. For some reason your post reminded me of my 4+ years in Chicago. This included the 'famous' Winter of '79.
The Good Olde Days, when -20 F was before the wind-chill. Then, too, that's a long time ago and my metabolism was foolishly youthful.

The UK Revenue have just sent Herself a letter saying that she has overpaid them £300 (via PAYE) for the tax year ending April 2013...and that they will send a cheque "in the next 14 days".
Two years it takes them, and they then take even longer to actually pay it back.
But...if you owe them anything, it's "pay it now, or we'll fine you £100".
Another reason to hate the tax man...

Years ago, I was to build a house, but that project finally got cancelled. I had 15 days to pay 11800€ taxes as part of requesting the building permission. It took 18 months to get my money back after the project was cancelled, not mentioning the numerous phone calls, emails and letters. I freaking hate them.

Did they pay you interest on the amount they eventually paid you?
They charge interest when you owe them money.
