YEah - but this initiative won't make it die - it will increase its lifespan - as why would flash devs learn HTML5 if they can keep doing what tghey are doing and have Google do the conversion for them?

You've a point. But maybe they will end-of-life the conversion after giving the converted-to-HTML5 flash code back to the admakers. Then also, at the same time, strip all flash out of webpages displayed in chrome.

I think animated banner ads should be converted to inert JPG's so that the first frame is the only thing they get to show...I can live with that.

I wonder if they built their own tool for scratch, or if they're building off of Shumway[^], Mozilla's attempt to create a flash runtime in javascript.

As endlessly challenging as code is, dealing with people is, by far, the harder part of developing software products.
Once upon a time, I had a certification for Project Management from some Very Prestigious Project Management Organization. I knew all about PERT and Gantt charts, critical paths, and resource balancing. I won’t say that knowledge of such things is useless in software project management, but they are not nearly as important as these five issues

To help align browsers to display this information and to make sure all users see and interact with the same content, web standards are created to make the lives of developers easier. I'm so glad the browser wars are "over". /sigh

I actually started programming using a TTY and 8-hole paper tape. Cut and Paste actually involved using real scissors back then!
