Crossword clues come in two types: "Simple" and "Cryptic".
Simple ones are just a word that means what the clue is: "Simple (5)" would mean "something simple, five letters" and the answer could be "BASIC"
Cryptic clues are more complex - and you have a link to some info on them already.
These are Cryptic Crossword Clues - hence the "CCC" part of the name.
The "WSO" part means "Winner Stays On" and says that the first person to get the answer and solution posted gets to set it the next day (Monday to Friday inclusive) - the "winner" gets to "stay on" and set the next problem.
