Direct comparison of the total votes cast is ridiculous. Only if in every constituency in which a UKIP candidate stood there was also an SNP candidate (or the ballot paper allowed someone to indicate that they would have voted SNP if there'd been an opportunity) would it even begin to make sense. It is the votes per candidate that count. In the seats that SNP won the majority were achieved with outright victories of 50%+ of the vote (even under PR, in other words, these would have been SNP wins). Even UKIPs best results came nowhere near that figure.

Not really, the flaw is that so few votes/MP in Scotland, no ware else in the Country are the constituencies so small, that they voted for the SNP (and Labour before them) is their right but why should that give them a disproportional amount of say in a UK Government?

The constituency size is somewhat over played here. The majority of the smallest constituencies are actually in Wales and there only 8 in the whole country with populations of less than 50000. And of course, the smallest constituency of all actually bucked the trend in Scotland and returned a LibDem!
The question is also somewhat disingenuous. Voters in the largest constituency of all, the Isle Of Wight with 110000 might just as easily ask the same question of those in Wolverhampton South at just 63000.
It's interesting to note that nobody seemed terribly concerned about disproportionate representation when Conservatives commanded over 50% of the vote in Scotland (yes, it happened!) nor Labour in its turn, nor indeed when LibDems were dominant in the Highlands and Islands. Electoral Reform is only ever popular with those parties who are worst placed to bring it about. Funny that!

Whilst electoral reform is unlikely I do foresee boundary changes occurring, as a reduction in the number of MPs in Scotland by even significant number would at worst cause the conservatives to lose 1 seat yet can have a big effect on the anti tory parties
the problem with proportional representation is that to form a government a party has to compromise and that imparts a disproportional amount of power to the minority parties

Finished mopping up issues in the live environments when I got in this morning.
Just got off the phone after an hour and a half talking splunk.
Now got to finish off the release that should have been done yesterday before we found ourselves with no computers.
Also haven't yet managed to get the test systems talking to each other properly. Need to find a window of opportunity for that.
Should leave the afternoon free for pointing out stupid decisions to project managers. I need much more than an afternoon, but there is no end to stupid.
