Best to always let instructions and such age a few days or weeks before acting. And, never answer your telephone. That's what voice mail is for. Call back only whom you wish to speak to. Same goes for email. And, if email is addressed only to you, read it. Anything else, trash it; it must be for someone else to respond. Then you will become happy, and surrounded by peace and quiet.

They didn't give me one - it costed too much in the department budget (note that the company has a stock of them in storage so they don't have to buy anything).
I hope it will be costing too much for the ages to come.

Isn't it funny. They keep pushing us into open offices with low barriers to enable "cohesion" and "collaboration" when all I want is a quiet area and a big whiteboard for solitary deliberation.
Perhaps if office layout decisions weren't left up to the happy-clappy marketing types, we might actually get some proper work done.
