Can't you configure your browser? With Firefox, I set in
about:config
image.animation_mode=none
media.autoplay.enabled=false
and a proxy.pac script which sends many requests of ads-pages to 127.0.0.1

An app to make the period of events and calendar months (IIRC this got hard coded to show only 1 mo in 2013) shown in Outlook's ToDo bar user configurable instead of being hard coded, or even an option for 'as many calendar events as there is room for'? Not wanting the regression from up to 30 days of notice about upcoming events on my main outlook view to only 7 days worth and the resultant big chunk of empty screen is the main reason I'm still using Office 2010 despite owning a 2013 license and being able to get a 2016 one for only $10 (via an employee discount program).

That's the same problem I was trying to crowd source a workaround for by commenting.
In some ways my biggest concern's not the threat of a $2/month bill, or even opening a hole in my firewall for an Internet of Pwned Things device, but that by creating an Azure account and giving MS a credit card number I'd be one snafu from being bankrupted by a crook who used my credentials to spin up a thousand dollars/hour worth of bitcoin miners.
