I've used iTunes on my Mac for the last 7 years and it's always worked flawlessly - yet I see these kind of comments all the time.
I'm curious, what exactly do so many people hate about it? And what do they use in place of it?
Back when I used Windows at home I seem to recall WMP was nothing to rave about.

/shrug It works for me too, but I'm the worst one for testing software - if it's not actively broken (like Windows is for me at the moment), I'm willing to live with just about anything.
I know Hanselman complains that "working with iTunes is like managing your music library with Excel" (or something like that).
And yeah, anything said about iTunes can also apply to WMP, as it was a pretty direct copy. But then again, I don't know if people are even using it for their music anymore.

As Windows Media Player has been around since 1991, while iTunes has been around since 2001 (making the headline article a bit crap at maths), I don't really see how WMP can be the copy.

It's full name is: iTunesVirus.

I never tried it. I never saw a reason to line the pockets of Apple executives when YouTube has everything I'll ever need.

I always thought Apple was awful, but iTunes is, by far, the worst piece of crap software I've ever dealt with...
I remember that time I just installed iTunes, just to try it out. First thing it did was sync my (full 160GB) iPod with my (still empty) iTunes library (didn't even ask if I wanted that!)  
Winamp is still my music player of choice 
For streaming I use Spotify.

Yeah, I was sad to see it go, but when the site was updated with "More Coming Soon" I was excited!
Too bad "Soon" turned out to be somewhere between now and infinity 
You can still download the latest stable version though (5.666).
I think it was somehow optimized for playing Iron Maiden!
