I thought it's be really useful to have Bluetooth headphones, so I bought a pair but after a couple of weeks got so sick of them running out half way to work, and then not having charged headphones for the journey home, and then forgetting to charge them when I got home, I soon switched back to a decent set of wired 'phones.
I can't see the adapter being that helpful either, it's just another awkward shaped lump to fit in your pocket.

Oh good grief. There's a lot of work out there that isn't "for profit." When I put together another website for these guys[^] (well, gals), there is no "cut" of the profit, they're a non-profit organization for Pete's sake!
Or when I do some work for another client, who has a fixed price contract for the services he provides, and the software I write is just a small piece, I can't go ask him for a cut of the profit, I'm already getting it, and there is no future profit.
I can't imagine trying to negotiate this kind of arrangement with a company like this[^]. Yeah, I'd like .01% of the profit of every satellite you build. 
Heck, I've been contracted by companies that run a loss (often funded by VC)! What should I do then, pay them for hiring me???
The only time I get offered a cut of the profit is 1) when they have no money and 2) they have no idea whether they'll even be successful. And those I laugh and say thanks, but no thanks.

It might not be a terrible idea when a bunch of ifs hold true: if you have the right contacts, and the necessary sales skills, and the business acumen to determine when you'll profit from this approach and when you won't, and probably the right portfolio to show off...I can see it working in some cases.
As you mentioned, though, there are plenty of circumstances where it's just not possible to ask for a cut of the profit. One would probably have more success in anchoring price to value delivered (e.g. "This project will save you $100k a year for the next 5 years, so paying me $25k to complete it is a bargain") rather than just (hours * hourly rate). It is again highly dependent on sales ability, or having a good network of prior clients who know you get things done. And it's still a non-starter in a ton of scenarios, especially any project where an RFP is involved.

No headphone jack is a no-go for me. I don't like bluetooth devices, and I like to hear through both ears, especially when on a mobile phone where the other end is in a conference room on a bad speakerphone, and you can barely make out the conversation with two ears!

No, because it does not answer my needs satisfiably. But I still use cars with internal combustion engines (1900 technology), firearms with metallic cartridges (1860's), wired phonesets (late 1800?) because they solve the problem they were created for, in a reasonable cost effectiveness.
So do current headphones - they transduct electrical signals to soundwaves in a cheap way with adequate quality and low space occupation. They can fail only in a limited number of ways, are of easy repair and maintenance and have an extremely long usage life. The standard is, well, standard so any stereo 3.5mm jack is suitable for any headphone set with a 3.5mm jack independently from maker and age - with digital protocols that is not the case as they change way too fast (and pointlessly).

I disagree. The old 1/4" jacks were robust and lasted forever but 3.5mm jacks have always been flaky. After a few hundred insertions and removals they can become loose. Soon you're missing a channel.

It really depends on the quality and treatment. I mistreat mine a lot, carry them in a bag full of heavy or sharp stuff and insert/extricate them a lot. Once I learned the proper way to store them (just unplug them before storing away the device) I never had any problem. The pair I'm using is 6 years old and with both channels - mind that they costed 10$ so I'm not talking about crazy expensive models.

Considering that I rarely use headphones on my smartphone since I use proper MP3 players to listen to the music I would give two flocks about it. I'd have a headphone set shipped with the phone which I will forget at home until changing phone and dumping both in the trashbin - as it happened with the latest phone with BEATS headphones (4 contacts instead of 3).

It would cost me an alternative - now if my MP3 player has its battery down I can at least plug the earphones in the phone and use my meager music collection stored there (or watch some YouTube stuff).
Also I wouldn't take on the habit of thinking only to what concerns me directly as it would make me a much poorer person.
