There are effectively no benefits to upgrading to Win10.
Really what you get is more maintenance work. You have to figure out where everything is.
I had win7 for years and it was great.
I bought a new laptop with 8.1 on it and it was completely fine.
I upgraded to Win10 because it was free but there is nothing special about it except that MS now controls me more --- and my graphics card flickers often on my i7, 8GB laptop.

When I will have at least one reason to absolutely change I will. Probably to 8.1 if it will cover the needs.
Changing for the sake of change is a waste of effort and all related resources (money, time, sanity, happiness, comfort...).

I am developing a UWA / UWP (Universal Windows APP / Platform) in XAML C# and to do that Visual Studio forced me to update the hte Windows 10 Anniversary edition. It was all quite terrible.

Hardly anyone uses "universal" apps. Even microsoft hasn't got "universal" apps for anything really useful, e.g. office, VS, Visio, and skype. The only things that are "universal" are games that everyone plays on the X-box, anyway, and comparatively useless apps with incomprehensible UIs.
I'd give it a miss. In a couple of years, "universal" apps will be as dead as the Home Server and Slate PCs.

Actually, I live-streamed the Microsoft ignite and learned some interesting stats about Microsoft.
I thought they were failing also, but actually -- in terms of cloud they are definitely winning.
They have something like 75% of Fortune 500 companies signed up for their cloud solutions.
Now, you might think, "Cloud? what do I care for the cloud?" Right, but big businesses do care and small business (start-ups) care too, because there is a MUCH smaller introductory cost to get up to speed with a strong infrastructure.
All of that focus on cloud is probably why desktop is suffering. They don't care right now.
So, why the UWA? Eventually, it will be there. Right now it is the best way to build an app that is easily accessible by Win10 users (get from app store). It is also the only way to add advertisements (I know you're smiling now) to a free app. Yes, you can simply pay $0.99 for the app and then the ads are gone so I think that is a fair trade-off.
Microsoft is too big to fail. INstead they can limp along for years throwing money at issues until they are finally just about as good as other choices --- which have gone out of business. Yes, that is a catch-22 as it is goo and bad.
The most important thing to me with the UWA is __easy deployment__ and that's the main thing I get from the Windows Store.
Also, UWA means XAML (which I alternately like a bit and then hate) which (if Microsoft is around in 5 years) will be the way to build all "desktop" apps (if there is such a thing). The windows form apps and that stuff has a serious crufty build-up. I hate to say it since I've been using those controls since Win3.1

Sure, the company won't collapse, but just look at how many projects, which they initially hailed as the greatest thing they'd ever done, have failed miserably.
They can afford to lose a billion or three to satisfy the lunatic desires of their decision makers, and they don't care how much time, money, and stress it causes us ordinary Joes.

I agree with you 100%. The product list that they've abandoned is larger than most companies list of current products. There have been some terrible ones too, like that little smart phone they produced, released and then something like 4 days after release killed. It was crazy.

As one who has been repeatedly whinging about unexpected updates and other irritations of Win10, I have to praise Microsoft for actually listening to their users. Yes really!
In the current version of Windows that I have on my PC and my laptop, there is now an option to set the quiet times during which restarts are allowed to take place. This may have been there before as I have only just found it but I think MS may have listened to various complaints and decided to do something about it. Top marks Microsoft!
Another of my pet hates was that Edge did not permit renaming downloads or sending them anywhere other than the downloads folder. Once again MS listened and fixed it.
To be honest I can't think of anything I still dislike about Windows 10. It definitely rocks.
We're philosophical about power outages here. A.C. come, A.C. go.

I've clung to Win 7 at home for as long as I could, but this weekend I'm going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade to Win 10. Because gaming. No DirectX 12 on Win 7, and VR is pushing me to Win 10 anyway, there's just no avoiding it for gaming.
I'm still on Win 7 at work fortunately, but I'm due for a new computer before long so that will change. I'll miss you, Win 7 my friend.
I'm not looking forward to having updates crammed down my throat, but at least I qualify for the pro version so I can defer them and hope the bugs get worked out before I get them

Why not simply crank up desktop DPI? That's precisely the setting for high-DPI monitors.

In your screen shot right above what you are changing is the "change size of items" that changes the size of everything including fonts inside any text area.
It's designed for hi rez screens or small screens like laptops and tablets.
I wouldn't recomend doing both size and text size, You might get some crazy big fonts.
