I was once sat in an early morning meeting at work with the hangover from h**l, completely mystified as to why I couldn't understand what was being said. It was only when my (non-german speaking) colleague gave me a look of "  I'm lost, what are they on about?" that I realised they were speaking in German not English! The meeting went a little easier after that lightbulb moment (but the hangover stayed for the duration)

After allowing the server to install sp2 for sql server 2014, customers started getting script errors when setting filters in ssrs reports. Apparently, this bug was introduced in sp2 and fixed a few releases later. So wte didn't the update get the more current release?
Easily fixed by downloading another half-gig cumulative update and everybody's happy again.

So, the upgrade was mostly successful. Desktop icons got re-arranged and my start menu shortcuts were of course obliterated.
Various other oddities, like the Visual Studio shortcuts disappeared.
The most annoying issue is now trying to figure out why the RabbitMQ server doesn't start up.
Otherwise, so far so good. And Windows Update is currently on. But no promises!
[edit]For some reason, the RabbitMQ service hadn't started. Manually starting it, and I'm back in business! Now to get my various shortcuts set up again.[/edit]
[edit2] During startup, it said various apps were being disabled/removed because they weren't compatible with W10. Those went by so fast I didn't have time to note them. Where the heck can I find out what it disabled/removed? Multimon seems to be one of them. I'll ask Google.[/edit2]

There may be an xml file in your desktop folder or on the root of C: that has that list. I remember seeing such a list popup on my system for W8.

Third-party services sometimes fail to properly list their dependencies. If you know those dependencies you can add it to the registry manually as a REG_MULTI_SZ string:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Your_Service\DependOnService
If you do not know the dependencies then you can instruct the OS to load the service delayed... and hope for the best.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Your_Service\DelayedAutostart (DWORD set to 1)
Might be a good idea to ask the software developers for support.

Those are kept safe in the Windows.old folder. Look for C:\Windows.old\Program Files

Just a comment about multimon:
Multimon should not be needed on W10...
By default it allows to have a taskbar on each display.
The only oddity is that when you press the windows key the menu appears always in the main display, not in the one you have the mouse / focus.

Yesterday, my gf fiancee asked me, "do you think my friend actually sent me a link to this website?"
A website on losing weight.
A website that was in an email.
And the email was in her spam folder.
And she said "I found this email from my friend in my spam folder."
And when asked, "why are poking around in the spam folder?" she replied "I occasionally look there to see if something got put into spam."
This, from the woman who got hit by a ransom-ware virus last year. This, from the woman who went to a website that told her her PC was infected, call this number, etc., which she did, then she called me and asked if she should pay the $99. After the person on the other end of the line had already established a remote connection to her computer and asked her if there were other computers in the house on the network.
Maybe I should have bought her an abacus instead of a new laptop (as related to my previous post.)
Fortunately, recovering from the ransom-ware was a 30 minute process of re-installing Windows and restoring her various documents.
In any case, she got a very stern talk from me!
Again.
I think this is going to be a case-by-case conversation.

One of the boards he was testing had a major fault to the point where one of the power resistors on it was glowing and starting to burn the board. As you may have guessed the temptation was just too great, he had to touch it. He later exclaimed "I didn't think skin could pop like that!"

When I was a kid, I got parts for my old computer by desoldering them from any old circuit boards I could get my hands on. With time my fingers adapted and I could simply pull out parts that I was heating from the other side, but I had to be quick. Those parts were still far from glowing hot. I too had that ability, but once we got techs with better eyesight and a steadier hands, they did most of that type of work and I lost that ability.
