There are places, like Q&A which make you think twice before trying that yourself. Some users really do have the ability to stay clear of trouble by learning from other people's example.

There are several things I stay away from and this way spare myself getting involved more than what is good for me:
- The soapbox. It's the bad part of town where you thank god don't have to go.
- Q&A, not because of some questions as most would think. These can always be ignored, but not the behavior of some people.
- Writing articles after having met a mob with torches and pitchforks in the discussion to an article that obviously went against some of the mob's religious beliefs.

The user can't update the up: we update it for them (Choice in the CP poll)

So, in my past Microsoft induced rages, I've pondered this apple thing. I've been knocking around the idea of picking up a mini-mac of some sort (errr, or is it a mac mini? lol) and playing around, writing some code just to see what all the fuss is about.

Went off and one an auction, bought the 2012 version (2014 version soldered everything in place, apple doesn't like people adding stuff they cannot over charge for). Fired it up last night.....

Damn, it's Linux. Well, probably not as f'd up as most of the distros are these days, but I'm telling you, it's Unix. Hmmm.

It's not well known, but Apple OS's are all fakes: iPhones actually run OS/360 with a pseudo-graphics interface made of ASCII art, and iPads all run OS/2 (in an attempt by IBM to get someone - anyone - to buy the damn thing and free up a couple of warehouses).

(- apparently got big discount if I bought it from him outside rather then go inside ... didn't buy any, don't want to go all fruity quite yet.)

Call it Mac mini and really under the hood is Linux. So there is the mighty command line. Cool | :cool:

Today came a collegue of mine struggling with a Microsoft Surface keyboard connecting it to Windows 7. On my iMac the connection was a piece of cake: one shot and done. Thumbs Up | :thumbsup:

Later he found the problem: his bluetooth dongle was not on the correct USB-port. I dont get it. Unsure | :~

Press F1 for help or google it.

Yeah, it is Linux.
I own a Mac Mini for iOS development.
Recently, I put Ubuntu on an old laptop and couldn't believe how similar the desktops are (close, minimize, etc on left).
And then the command prompt of course is all Linux on both.
You could'a saved a lot of money by just using Ubuntu on an old machine. Smile | :)
