I visited the facility yesterday. It's on a DoD facility and the work is performed in a SCIF. I wasn't allowed to go into the SCIF during the visit. Each desk in the SCIF has three computers (dev, test, and production) connected to a KVM switch because the different environments are on different subnets.
The app (and I always use the term "app" loosely when talking about web sites) uses a mix of jquery and KendoUI. They don't use ASP.Net at all, nor MVC.
The database merely holds data, and is not instrumental at all in site topology or configuration. Eventually, the data will be moved to "the cloud" (Amazon).
I was told that I was being brought in to perform dual roles that include maintenance of the existing app, and designing/implementing a more maintainable/modern version of it.
There is currently one developer working on it.
There is another team of devs working on other parts of another app, and their lead said that "external documentation is pointless", and "code comments are a complete waste of time".
I accepted the job and start in two weeks.

The password policy that annoys me. Must be at least 15 characters, must include upper and lower case chars, special chars, numeric chars, special/numeric chars cannot be adjacent, no part of the password can form a word found in the dictionary, you can't use a password from a list of the 24 most recent passwords, and you have to change the password every 30 days.
By the time you find a password you can use, it's time to change your password again.
You would think that I was going to have access to nuke launch codes...

And it isn't any fun programming the crap that checks that either. I think you also forgot you can't have more than 2 repeated characters in a row and you can't have progressions like 'bcde' in it.
I use the make up a dirty sentence about the wife and use the first letter of each word method and stick the year and a special at the end.

A biometric scanner can be defeated rather easily.
At one company I worked for, they bought one of those shipping container data center pods, and installed a thumbprint reader for access. I bet the boss $500 that I could crack it in a week. The next day, I noticed that he drank from his coffee cup without using the handle, so I dusted his cup with graphite, and used a piece of scotch tape to lift his thumb print.
On the 2nd day, when he entered the pod, I was sitting there cruising the web on the "secure" machine.
He removed the biometric crap the next day, and installed a combination key-pad/card reader, and paid me $500 in cash.

There is an option on some readers for 'liveness detection' but that reduces ambient light rejection.
