So the tl;dr is:

0. nothing in relativity suggests that spacetime cannot contract or stretch faster than light

1. nothing in physics says energy density can’t be negative

So all you have to do is both of those things, and Hey, Presto! FTL travel!

I feel I should point out the slightly bleeding obvious flaw in the reasoning -- the fact that no-one says that something can't happen doesn't mean that it can!

Often, if no-one says something can happen, it's because it can't. In this instance, for example, we use abstract determiners that were invented by people to quantify things (it's quite common to call them "numbers").

When working with numbers, it's really easy to make stupid suppositions, because the real world doesn't force numbers to behave like the non-abstract things that the numbers represent.

E.g. for point 1, solve this:

If you have five pounds of potatoes, and someone steals eight pounds of potatoes from you, how many pounds of potatoes are you left with?

Easy, no?

You've got -3 pounds of potatoes.

Now perform the experiment with real potatoes, rather than abstract quantifiers (those "number" things, again), and send me a photo of what -3 pounds of potatoes looks like.

The only difference between doing this with potatoes and doing it with "energy density" is that if you do it with "energy density", and act all clever and intellectual, some people won't realise that you're a bleeding idiot.
I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!

Communication disruptions, electrified pipes, random unexplained blue-screens in Windows - the list of effects is terrifying.
